I have been toying around with what wheels to run on my family build. It was decided by my son we are going back to uncut. I already have 2.5 lift and planned on 1” body to help with the AOD clearance issue. I currently have 15x8 Indy mags wheels. Im not sure how they will fit being 4” backspacing?

If they would fit what size tire could work with uncut 2.5 lift and with a 1” body?

If any of you guys have that same stance please post pictures of your Bronco!

Thanks Jeff

Most likely still just a 31/10.50 to help with rear clearance.
The 4” B’s is your saving grace here.

Any wider and the tire will be pretty close to rubbing. Any taller and you might have to move the rear axle back some.

My original paint '76 Explorer doesn't have Indy Mags, but they are 30 year old KMC wheels in a 15 x 8 with 31 10.50s. The wheels are even 4 and 4 on spacing.

It has an AOD transmission with no body lift and there is not any clearance issues with the tranny. It has a Duff 2 1/2" lift that is 30 years old too....

Hey Paul, yeah 31x10.5 is a great size for an lifted uncut truck! My question to you and I’m sure you’ll know the answer. 😉 If I run the AOD is it required that I run a 1” body lift? I have heard both “yes” and “no” on that topic. Any thoughts?

Thanks again

Yeah Dennis, I love that stance! I’m shooting for a stance that looks beefier then stock but not to crazy because my wife hates tall trucks. She claims that she can’t get in them easily enough. I asked her what are you 44 going on 74? 😂 Anyways I’m just trying to keep everyone happy. 😉

The cure for that is as close as a $1500 set of Amp Research power steps!😉😁
Or whatever they cost these days.

I just drove a bronco this last Thursday that had a set on it and I think I love them.
Took a bit to get used to, and they don’t stick out quite far enough to be called perfect, but they’re pretty slick no matter what.

And yes, the answer to your question about the AOD is both yes and no.
Somebody mentioned just yesterday I think that they did one without a body lift. So we know it can be done, but we also know it’s a lot easier with a 1 inch body lift.
So that’s my version of the typical bronco answer of the day and I’m sticking to it.😎

What is the interference with the AOD and no body lift? I'm curious.. I never knew that you needed one... The AOD conversion in the Explorer is one of the first half dozen that was built by Advance Adapters. (Bought through James Duff Enterprises when they were in Washington.) It actually was so early on that AA built machined the tailshaft wrong which destroyed the first transmission, but they machined a second shaft and paid to have the second transmission built. The only problem that was mentioned back then was changing the t case shifter from a J to a T (inline). This was in 1991 or 1992...
