170 Air Cleaner - Dry Filter Conversion?

After years stalking vehicles on Craigslist, I finally, and happily made the jump into the EB world. I'm not too excited with the wet oil air cleaner on my 170 6 cyl. I think it's the primary cause for all the oil in my engine compartment.

Has anyone made the convert to a dry filter? I don't want to cut the hood for an air cleaner until I blow the engine and drop in a 302. I'd like to know if someone has had success converting.

Thanks,

John

I bought a dry filter for my 170 that came off a car after I had a really hard time finding an oil bath and when I did on ebay the final price was close to $100. Unfortunately I never got to run it since I sold my Bronco soon after I got it, so I'm not sure how it compares but I would think just fine since some cars ran one. I still have it if you are looking for one, all the after market ones I found hit the hood.

I got a stock dry unit off a 170. $20 plus the ride if you need it. :)
