Hey I need some help. My 170 is running very lean and missing badly after I rebuilt my autolite 1100. It puts out a lot of loght grey smoke when you hit the accelerator. It also misses very badly at idle. I have tried adjusting the idle mix screw but it doesn't really help much. The float measures out to about 1 3/16 when measured with that paper gauge. I am not sure where it is supposed to measure. Anyone have any ideas here?

Should be about right for the float level. You may want to double check it just to be sure. bottom out the idle mixture screw then back it out 1 1/2 turn for your base line setting you shouldnt need to turn it much from there. Also check for vacuum leaks. As they will cause a rough idle. I'd also make sure your points gap and timing are set correctly.
Warm the engine up fully before making your final adjustments.
