Project we are getting started on. Curious, 1966 oddity I haven't seen or previous owners craftiness? Hardware looks to be OEM Ford style.

When it cools down in a few hours I'll go out and look in the shop at my 66 trays.

And what month was your '66 built in jabshire? With that info the others can also track down any other similarities that might be shared with others.
Sure looks factory to me too, and the body details were changing now and then during that time. Does yours have the same body braces that later models have between the front of the wheel well and the core support?

The '66 models also had an additional strap/brace at the rear of the passenger wheel well (tied to the firewall) too. Does yours have that brace/strap?

Yes. The '66 battery tray is different from later models. Its the same basic size as the later one (and replacement ones from the supply houses), and will mount on the battery supports just like the original. The '66 one has less holes in the bottom and the easiest way to differentiate in the later one is the tabs that the hold-down rods hook in. The '66 tabs are square down to the formed edge of the tray. One the later tray (and the Repop), the tabs have a long slope down to the formed edge. I'll get a picture...It's worth many words..

Your battery tray is a '66, but I'm not sure about the reinforcement piece on the right side. I have never seen that before. It appears to be original too..

Neither of mine have the additional brace piece.

I have never seen that brace on one either Bobby, and I've looked at many '66s... It appears very authentic, but ......
Tim might straighten us out....;);D;D

Thank guys. It was the addition of that brace I was referring to. Brace is connected to the tray. Spot welds or heat press. I'll get it blasted and post more pics. It fits like it was made for it. Not sure on the time frame and get that to. 6 cyl.

Jarred, I have seen these several times in past years. And I believe different years too. I don't think any of mine have it but will double check. Tim

Thanks guys. Very cool. Love it when I learn something new with these old Broncos. I will attach a new tray to the bracket and put it back since its OEM.

After looking at my '66's, I found one with the battery box with the brace! A tid bit of Bronco knowledge! It's a U14FL820029.

So you are correct, Jabshire. It is an original Bronco part and installed at the factory!;D;D;D

This picture triggers me...a few months ago, the battery tray hold downs gave way and allowed the battery to inch up and chewed up by the alternator flywheel. Needless to say...I have battery acid all over the engine bay. Most of the spark plug wires wire melted through and well...battery acid. I eventually replaced the battery. Tried cleaning up the acid with some baking soda and rigged up something for the battery (if it ever slips out of the hold downs) it won't hit the alternator.
