1966 Bronco - Need Feedback/Help

Hello all,

I am now pursuing a 1966 Bronco that appears to be in great shape. The owner replace the 6 cylinder engine with a V8. The shop that did it specializes in Broncos, located in Venice CA. Does this bring the value down, since the engine is no longer original?

Also, the Bronco has been repainted - nice quality overall. However, the dash is now red - - did they come that way or were they always white? Just trying to understand what I'll need to do to get it closer to original. The bumpers and front grill were painted black as well....do they look original (i.e. just need to paint back to white)?

Photos are here: http://1drv.ms/1LxXKea

Any other feedback on the photos?

Thx!

On 66' the dash was Grey poly. To go back toward original, you would need to paint dash, grill(white). Ditch the front bumper. And paint the replacement 66' (not available as a replacement part) and rear bumper white or have them chromed.
Some would say the v8 swap is much more desirable. Not sure it really hurts the value.

Welcome and nice looking 66'! Adding to BB's comments above, the door panels would have been poly gray as well. Those aren't 66' hub caps, 66' only came with a rear fuel tank, upholstery should be silver, rear seat is the incorrect style(66' had different arm rests). 66' had different locking hubs. The horn button should say Ford Motor Company on it, yours may, just can't see it in the pic. Washer fluid button isn't original from what I can tell in the pic. Rear view mirror not original.

Now, all that said, I'd proudly drive that fine looking 66' just the way it is. :)

You guys rock - thank you!! A few clarifying questions:

-Did the '66 come with hub caps? How can you tell those aren't correct?
-Fuel Tank - are you saying the second tank was added at some point (i.e. not a factory option in 1966)?
-Any idea what year the rear seat came out of?
-What do you mean by "locking hubs"?

Any comments on value? It's not $5K :) but it's under $20K.

Thx again!

Ken

Yes the front tank was added. Check out Blue Bastard ' s build thread, it's an incredible 66' resource. Not all came with hubcaps, when the did, they look like the ones below. It's a 67-77 rear seat.

66' hubs in this pic, the part you turn to lock the front axles.

66' stuff

^^^ beat me to it.

Rear seat

Hubs

Those sets and hub Capps could be found in any other bronco year from 68-77.

66' stuff is a lot more difficult to find.

Here is a link to my build thread for you to peak at if you want.

As said that is a good looking truck, don't shy away due to some missing pieces. Just don't pay more because it's a first year.

On the subject of getting it closer to original... Those look like '67 interior door handles and window cranks. They at least look different than the ones on my '66. Still a great looking Bronco, though.

Thanks. Sounds like it would make my life easier if the seller realized it was a 67 instead of a 66. :) Bums me out that something that *appears* to be nice has actually had many parts replaced. Making me re-think the purchase.

^^^^^ Good eye, door handle definitely not 66', can't tell for sure on the window crank, can't zoom in enough on my cell.

I would get a Vin number to verify but I think you are looking at a 66'. You have a 66' tailgate, shocks appear to face forward giving you a 66 frame, you have 66 hard top (handle and lock pin location) and 66 doors (door lock location). Two other items not original, front grill (might be the picture but I don't see the eyebrows) and brake master cylinder (dual vs single, many would make this change for safety). Your missing drivers side mirror, easy fix. I don't think the v8 hurts value much her in CA unless your are going for totally original. If you like it, I would address the more cosmetic items and enjoy the ride (dash color, door panels color, door cranks, bumpers, dash knobs, seats, hubs, hub caps) Hub caps and seats would be the most expensive to correct.

Thanks for all the help. I haven't seen it in person yet but based on the feedback above, it feels like the price of $17K (with shipping to CA) is high. Any thoughts? I wouldn't want to lose a great Bronco over a small amount but it seems like this will require several thousand just to get it close to original. Having said that, there's no rust, new paint, new engine, etc. Thoughts????????

Some early '67s had 66 Tops, doors, seats.
Thoughts ?? # 1 - I think thats a fair price for that rig ,it looks like a nice Bronco.
#2 - Ive been involved in Broncos a long time and was hoping not but knew it was inevitable that the " car guys" would get interested in EBs and bring their " original , build sequence, matching numbers " -- ah - mentality with them .
But Hey to each his own . Some guys like 66s ; ME - that'd be the last year I'd buy. Roadsters - I'd have to have three other Broncos in the stable first ( I've got 2) before I bought one. But that's ME - "different strokes"

One of the things I love about Broncos is the rolling changes of when parts were put into the production line (and then another pallet of the old parts were found and used) will drive those guys bat s**t.

I would say 17k is a decent price especially given CA pricing. I would just make sure you see it in person and it's got proper vin numbers on it.
