Does anybody know where this piece goes? It is about 4 inches long and I think it goes somewhere in the engine compartment. Any help would be appreciated.

Run it up along the driver side front fender about mid way until the hole lines up with a bolt and see if the curves and bends match the edge of the fender. With a little gap on the inside I believe.

I’m not sure, but it reminds me of a piece that I’ve seen many times bolted to the fender. Might’ve had something to do with the jack handle?

I also think it has something to do with the jack, lug wrench or jack handle. I am just unable to find a bolt or hole where it would fit. The outer fender has been replaced but the inner fender is original. Anybody have any pictures?

Been trying to find some pictures that I know I have taken over the years, but not having much luck. Since changing computers my pictures are scattered all over the place.

is it a piece of sheet metal about 2 inches long with a 90 degree bend on each end and a 5/6 hole in the center if it is then its a jack handle mount to the inner fender liner on the side down the front drivers side fender liner and another one on top of the driver side wheel well top by the Jack mount. I cant see the picture so I am just guessing at what it is. if it is for the lug handle and jack crank there were protruding studs for it.

If this is the piece you are asking about it is about 12" up and 8" back from the bottom front corner of the apron on my '73.

Took me a moment to actually see the part bolted to the apron metal! Was thinking you were asking about the whole thing until I spied that one little bit.
Not the part i was thinking about, but good to have that pic as a reference for the clamp that holds both halves of the jack handle. Don't see many of those in action anymore it seems.

I was thinking it showed the part that Rustytruck described, sorry for the confusion. I see your point that with the apron removed it is hard to see what I was trying to relay. I had taken this photo recently for my own reference and offered it in case it helps.

No, I was thinking it was great to post that up. It’s not the part I was thinking of, but it’s another related part that’s good to know about. I don’t remember the last time a picture of that clamp was posted up here on the forum, so I’m glad you did.

Great diagram. With a nice expanded view of that part’s location too!
You can see in the diagram that it bolts to the underside of the fender, as suspected. It actually retains the jack base, while the big half-loop thingy on the fender holds the jack body down.
