After cutting up the floor and fighting the 5 speed trans install I finally got the trans mounted to the engine. I should have checked the started bolt sizes when I discovered the 6 mounting holes were to small. I had just gotten the trans ready to bolt to the motor when I discovered this problem. Removed the trans and drilled those out so the stock bolts would fit through the bell housing.

My guess is the starter mounting bolts need to be metric. Any one know for sure what size they are?

For the record this is a 99 model 4.2 trans.

I finally got around to looking into the bolt size issue I thought I was having. I'm a little embarrassed to say the bolt holes were 3/8 and not metric. Since I had the trans in the bronco and never looked at the threads which is hard to see with not much light in my garage. I ran a 3/8 tap in to clean up the threads and the starter is now in.

Start the bronco with open headers. Bet the neighbors hate me now.

Hey, congrats on the start!
Was just there with a friend too. Luckily his neighbors are all at least a few hundred feet away, but at night, that sound can sure carry!

Yeah, and years from now the boys will remember what a cool car-guy neighbor they had!

Good point. Funny story with the neighbors boy that is just learning to talk. He is saying my name before he has said mom.
