Hi guys,

I'm needing to change from my current 4 barrel carburetor to a 2 barrel to prevent flooding on steep up hill/downhill situations when crawling. I'd like to avoid changing out the entire intake manifold if I can help it. Does anyone have experience with any of the adapters that allow you to run a 2 brl on a 4 brl intake manifold (similar to adapter in link below)?

If so, did yo have good results? Any negative aspects?

Also, when moving to a 2 barrel, what is a solid, standard brand and CFM. I"m thinking just a basic Autolite/Motorcraft(??)

Thanks!

That works fine. Way better then the other way around (4-barrel carb on a 2-barrel intake).
Just switching from a bad 4-barrel to a bad 2-barrel will result in the same issues you have now. Ever consider just fixing the 4-barrel you have now? Just about every brand has kits and tricks to make them run good offroad. If you really want a 2-barrel, look for a stock Bronco 2-barrel. That is generally the best you are going to find for offroad work.

Actually the 4 brl carb I have now has less than 100 miles on it and works fine on the street but when I had it on the trails it was near impossible to keep running on inclines/ declines.

Yeah, it's an edelbrock. I don't mind it on the street at all. Runs good in fact.

From most of the wheeling gurus I've talked to the issue is that 4 barrels do not work well for rock crawling though rather than the make or age of the carb.

What about the Holley Truck Avenger? I heard it was specifically designed for off camber situations? Losing the other 2 barrels will have you missing themwhen you are used to them. Just a thought as I do not know your type of driving/intended use.

If you put the off road needle and seats in and lower the float level about 1/3 it will run fine on the street and great in the rocks. ran one for years and it worked fine.

Ditto. I did the off road needles and seats and float springs with good results and the process got me really familiar with Holley carbs. Really glad I did it back in the day as it made the Holley carb alot less intimidating to me.
I run a Holley TA 670 now, and it is awesome.

Think he was talking about modding the edelbrock. Holleys are much easier to deal with offroad takes very little to make them run at angles. Even in stock form they run pretty good.
I'll second the statement that it doesnt matter 2 or 4V they will both run well offroad if setup correctly just some carbs need less setting up than others.
In most cases a 4v carb will have smaller primarys than a 2V carb so lowend driveability tends to be slightly better. Its also part of the reason many people believe they feel a increase in power when they install a 4v carb. As throttle response tend to be better so they believe its a power increase which it kinda is

This is the one I used Brandon, before my EFI. I used the thick carb gasket on the 2 barrel side to clear the accelerator pump on the Motorcraft 2100/2150's.

I used the same one after one of the cheapie Mr. Gasket P.O.S cast aluminium leaked real bad. I didn't use the thick gasket, I milled out a little more to clear the accel pump. Works great.
