Last year I purchased a 77 project that came from HI. Some of its problem have been improved on. I want to start the engine and determine its condition. There is installed a steel 23 gal gas tank . The gas supply connection is on the front side and was connected. I put about four gallon of gas in the tank. No Gas. Then about eight more. I still can not get any gas to the engine. Has any one had problems with 23 gallen tanks from Toms Bronco?

Do you have shop air that you can try blowing air from the fuel pump back into the tank and listen for bubbles? Make sure you remove the gas cap first.

Just for clarification, when you say Front Side, do you mean Front Top Corner? Not an expert but I know a few of those tanks had breather/vent lines near the fuel outlet. Take some pics if you can.

Tank in the Bronc-up has the fuel supply tube in the front face of the tank at the top-left (driver's) side. It's just a tube sticking out of the tank.
My first thought was the same as SLOWnEASY's. If you can't get air to in, then there's no hope of suctioning fuel out.

The NWMP would have the outlet nipple on the driver front corner facing to the front , all the nipples on the side ( drivers side ) are vent/ evap related

I plugged the fuel line at the tank to make sure it was ok. It held pressure. When I blow on the line when it is connected I hear bubbles but it will not suck any gas. Sone said some of theses tanks that were made abut about 10-15 years ago had faulty outlet tubes. Now I am wondering if it can be repaired with he gas in it.
This project had the tank installed and was new when I got the Bronco.

There are three smaller tubes on the driver side at the top. The larger of the three connects to the filler neck for fueling. The other two appear to be for the evap system if iwas to be used.

The tank outlet is on the front side about three inches from the top and is shielded.

There is a drain bung so it looks like i have to drain the gas and lower the tank. Maybe It can be repaired through fuel level sender bracket.

I did a search and it seems this tank had a lot of problems when purchased ten years ago. I just have to expect problems even when parts are bout from major suppliers.
I was wondering if others had a problem with this tank.

This may have been an easy fix if I suspected a problem.

Was it me I'd plug that original pick-up (weld it shut, not just a rubber cap) and look into adding a pick-up/sender assembly that drops in from the top. That was my plan for the Bronc-up when I got to it.

I've had the same tank as you in mine for over 20 years, no problems to speak of.

Yeah, no problem with any of mine either.
I wonder if the problem started just prior to NWMP selling off to Sunset metal Fab? Or maybe the problem started after Sunset started producing them.
Hard to say because I never noticed, or didn’t pay attention to, any problems with pick ups like you’re speaking of.
I remember there was a short-lived problem with BC Broncos tank pick ups. With those, either the steel pick up tube was blown through during the welding process, leaving a hole. Or the rubber extension hose had popped off.
I remember that caused a lot of headaches it was figured out.
Sorry you’re having this issue. When they are working, you literally can’t stop the flow coming out of the pick up tube!
I was draining one once, sitting on the table. Was pointed up slightly, and I got the flow started and had to quickly change containers because it literally siphoned itself dry with just that one start and not even having to tilt it.
Barely a drop left when it stopped flowing.
