cant be more than my 400 can it. The idea of the big six is really starting to grow on me.

it will really grow when you drive it, I pulled my sisters husbands 2wd plumbing truck loaded with about 1500 pounds of tools pipe and boxes out of a 3 ft deep ditch with 4 ft of snow with my stock 300 six and 435 the road was covered in Ice so I flogged my six in low and the truck popped out after I pulled it about 200 ft through the ditch and they are tough little bastards too it ran on 15 psi oil pres for years and never complained, after school I would load it with 1,000 pounds of drywall scrap and it took it like a champ if I wasn't already contemplating a 4bt swap 300 six would be at the top o the list, oh and did I mention my F150 got 16 mpg with 4.11's and 33's.

I don't know it might weigh more than your 400. When I replaced the 232 I6 in my CJ5 with the chevy 350 V8 I lost like 75 pounds. That was quite a rush loosing 75 pounds and gaining all that HP of a TPI 350 over the dependanble but anemic Jeep 232.

Great motor once Ford put fuel injection on it, before that it wasn't that bad but I won't do the swap with a carbed 300.

Anybody know the wieght difference between an equally dressed 300 I6 and a 302 V8?

Nearly identical..the 300 might go 15# over the 302 depedning on whose source numbers you use. Well under the weight of a 400..by more than a hundred pounds.

It was a good sturdy motor that lasted forever on a carb. Fuel injection turned it into a more fuel efficient higher torque motor. Night and day between stock carb and EFI.

if they weigh the same then it seems like a good way to go. My fathers welding truck back in the seveties had a 300. That thing would out pull anything an equally weighted 460 would do up to about 30 MPH. 4.11 gears and 7.50X16s. It didn't like to pass and really didn't even like to cruise 70. But it was so heavily loaded it can't be compared to an EB. (one ton with overload springs.)

It did however really like thew 55 speed limit when they put that into law.

The 300 was the best truck engine ford ever made. My fathers 300 that I rebuilt has almost 400K on it. The truck it's self is over 600K miles.

If the engine you found bax is an industrial engine it will have a steel crank in it.

My deal fell through. Someone got it before I did. Still looking. The pictures I see of the injected 6 make me think the intake wont fit under the hood. Even with a body lift. The intake sits high up over the valve cover. Any info on this?

Bax, I have a 71 f 250 with a 300 and a 435. I had 4800 lbs. in the bed once. Pulled it no problem. I just recently picked up an exhaust manifold from an injected 300 at the pick a part. It is supposed to be a big difference compared to the old manifold. Check out the ford inline six forums. Tons of good info.
