;D Hello I am a big bronco enthusiast i have a 1966 half cab my dad and i have been building for the last year i am 16 years old and love the truck to death i have put so much blood sweat money and tears into the vehicle. My parents did not put a penny into it but i have put about 15,000 into it, it is my baby and means a lot to me. Right now it has a 170 straight six in it and i am ready for an engine build project what kind of engine should i be looking for 351 (windsor) or (cleavland) whats the differance i really just want to do a carbuerated 302 built up but have no clue if you guys could provide me with some basic imformation on swaping a six to an eight that would be great if you could include what transmission transfer case basically all the details i should know. Should i get a new wiring harness etc i have a 5,000 dollar budget on the swap right now but we'll see how far that goes i really appreciate everything this site has done for me and cannot wait to here the responses please excuse my grammer it is late at night. thanks again

P.S if any of you would like to sell a 302 or 351 i would be interested i live in northern california

%) %) %) You will want the 351W it will be your best choice. Then you will need a good RV typ cam a 4V intake or EFI and then what trans do you want to run. What size tires are you going to use and what gear ratio. Trust me it will never end been playing with mine for 30+ years. I have a 66 with the 69 351W 4V and 4 speed top loader run 4:11's with 33:12.50's on 8" mags good luck with your toy.%) %) %) Bill %) ;D

I'll do some basic information. I'll leave "all the details" to someone else.

For a I6 to V8 swap, only the transfer case can be reused. Everything else is different. Also need a V8 radiator, which will not bolt up directly to the I6 core support. Also need frame mounts, as the I6 frame mounts are different from V8.

Check all the Vendors (Wild Horses, BC Broncos, Jeffs, Toms, etc) on-line catalogs for the parts they offer for doing a I6 to V8 swap. You'd be surprised what you can learn from those catalogs.

Since you don't yet have a transmission, you have lots of option. You need to decide on Manual or Auto, and what kind of driving you plan on. Condsidering the price of gas, an overdrive tranny would be nice.

The wiring harness has nothing to do with the engine swap.

i am in the same boat as you are. I am 15 and begging to work on my baby everyday. I think you could pull a 5.0 ho motor from a mustang pretty cheap. They come with fuel injection already so all you have to worry about is the wiring. and depending on the driving you want to do take a c4 for an automatic or a nv435 for manual. But i think a 302 would be fine. 351 just gives insurance reason to jack up the price of a "high risk" driver.

i did an engine swap last year at this time when i was 16 as well but i had a 302 in there and just stayed with that just a new remaned one. i would say either 302 or 351 would be good you get a little more torque with the 351 because of the size of the block. make sure you get a 4 barrel you will love it.

Where are you getting all this money from, I'm a poor college student who can barely aford to buy books and booze let alone drop 5,000$ on a motor. Although, I do remember when I was 15 and I just bought my first car ... 1973 Mach 1 so I know the joy of having a sweet vehicle at that age. Just glad I still have her.
