3rd gear is what usually goes out in the T-5. Lots of horsepower and double the weight of a fox body put that tranny through hell. I would like to revert to the "Bigger is Better" mantra right now

Check out Kieth black for pistons he makes them for stroker motors and stockers alike my advice is get the best parts availible or you maybe rebuilding it and dumping in even more $$ AS for a cam you should build the engine around the cam, you will still have to base it on the type of driving you are going to do Call the Cam companies they will even recommend a compresion ratio thats right for the cam

how heavy is the 393 compared to the 351w? I thought the bronco was heavy enuff in the nose. Just wondering.

There are some smart guys here on this site that will be able to compute the additional weight of the longer throws in the stroker crank, and then subtract the difference in mass of the 302 pistons, but since I am not one of them, suffice it to say the weight difference is negligible!!!

ok then...what about parts availability? Is there a benefit to running that over a 351w? I'm still learning here. thanx for the info.

Only thing different will be the crank for a 393. It uses stock 351W rods and .030 302 pistons.

Here's a 351C Flat top piston (left) and a 302 piston with an intake valve relief cut for Aussie 2v heads (right). Notice the dish in the piston it's needed to drop the compression ratio with the 3.850 stroke (393) plus the quench chambers in the Aussie heads I'll be using. Without it the C/R will be to high to run pump gas.

Won't the dish negate any quench benefit of the Aussie heads? It would almost seem that you could get about the same results with the US 2V heads and flattops, or could you? I'm not real educated in the stroker field.

Yes and no,
With the stroke the C/R will be very high. A quench chamber will burn fuel more better than an open chamber plus you will run lighter pistons with a dish. With the Aussie heads there is alot more material on the exhaust port to work with. Compare a stock 2V and Aussies side by side on the exhaust face, you'll see the difference.

Definately the stroker. You'll get cheap horsepower and torque with the 393 and you can build it as mild or wild as you like. I think you'd be very happy with it. Just got my 408 running a couple days ago and I love it!

I am convinced. Time to start saving for the stroker....
Does Coast use the SCAT crank, or one of their own? I will be needing a cast crank for a mild 393 torque motor.

Madgyver, that is not fair- you are several thousand miles closer to the source for those Aussie 2V heads!

I believe it's a SCAT crank, but you should call them to make sure. They give you full-floating wrist pin pistons and they are forged. Oh yeah, get as big a dish as you can since a flat top piston will put a stroker motor up into the 12:1 range.
