351w Proflo4 install with painless harness

My bronco has sat for years till I accumulated everything needed for engine build and wiring harness. It's a 74 wagon , I got the harness installed mostly. The PO had put a skin over then factory dash so there are missing things. Such as the little lights under the heater switch, the dash cigar plug. I think all the main stuff is here. I try to start and I get no fire. Some of the connections I unsure of. I got the full painless harness with the switches. 351w stroked to 395, Proflo4 Efi. M1A1 intank pump explorer front dress.

I am confused a bit with the painless wiring to the Proflo4 . I see several guys with the same setup. But I can't tell In their pictures how they wired them since they had some clean wiring. Edlebrok says not to hook the painless wires to the coil with the pair from the PF4. Then with the extra wires for the dura spark that are not needed.I don't know what to put anywhere from the starter solenoid, alternator, on and I'm colorblind 😂. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, colorblind does make Wiring more entertaining. Read that as frustrating!
Is the standard Dura bar distributor compatible with the pro flow set up, according to Edelbrock?
The reason they don’t want you to connect the painless wires to the ignition, is because the computer controls the ignition now. Nothing from the painless ignition circuits is needed at this point. At least as far as I know.

Which alternator are you running? Explorer I presume?
You’ll need to come up with your own charge cable, unless you bought that as part of a kit already?
That will connect directly from the BAT output of the alternator to the battery side of the starter relay/solenoid.
The green with red stripe wire (more on that later) from the painless product to the old voltage regulator, which is no longer in use, will connect to the green with Where wire on the new alternator. Same for the yellow wire for the old regulator.
By “more on that later” I mean we’ll discuss the writings on the painless wires and location/positions of the 4G alternator connector wires.
I just don’t know them off the top of my head, but others will have pictures to show you so you’ll know which factory wires to use.
Luckily, the painless wires are all printed with descriptions on them as to what their function is.

That’s just a quick synopsis. Others with more time and recent experience with painless and pro flow will fill in more details.

It is an explorer alternator, I do have that green\red connected to the alternator. I think it said to cap off the Yellow wire from the regulator wires so I am not using that wire. The PF4 comes with its own distributor and I don't know if any other than edlebrok are compatible. I did get the edlebrok rail mounted fuel pressure regulator the 58 psi option. I'll try calling their support line today and see what their thoughts are also. The other issue I have a wiring question is the wires under the steering column. I wasn't blessed with the factory harnesses plug 🔌 . Thanks for your reply.

Edlebrok had me do some testing and thinks my distributor is bad along with a sensor since it never registers an RPM change in the app when turning it over. Also the manafold pressure is reading -24 .

Great. That’s a key component of the charging system.
I think it said to cap off the Yellow wire from the regulator wires so I am not using that wire.
Well, then you will have to connect yours like many people do. That is the yellow with white striped wire coming out of the alternator connector will go to the large BAT stud with a ring terminal.
This is your sensing wire that tells the regulator how much charge the battery needs in order to be maintained.
The yellow wire capped off would normally be used for it, as it’s spliced closer to the battery. But many have found the short jumper to the battery stud of the alternator works adequately well.
The PF4 comes with its own distributor and I don't know if any other than edlebrok are compatible.
Won’t matter about other distributor’s compatibility, as long as this one works.
Since it was supplied with the system, it should be probably the best choice.

Lovely… It’s always something!
