Do i run the "I" wire or ignition switch wire directly to the ignition switch or can I splice into the Green wire with the red stripe. In the pic-this was part of the external voltage

You can (and should) use the old existing Green w/red stripe wire for the new alternator. It serves the exact same function, only on an internal regulator instead of an external one.
Using it will also save you the headache of trying to attach it to the same terminal on the switch. There are already two wires there (Red w/green and Green w/red) and they're hard to get to for adding a third.
Luckily, no reason to go to that trouble.

Did your alternator come with the new connector as well? If so it should literally be the same color wire. So a (edit/correction) Green w/red to a Green w/red is all you need.

I have the painless wiring kit. It has green with a red wire.... I've looked all over the wire harness and that's the only green w/ red stripe I've seen. That's got to be it. My bronco is a 76

Sorry! I got my wires crossed and my colors bass Ackwards.
What I meant to say was green with red, too green with red.
So yes, you use that existing green with red for your new alternator.

I've seen this diagram for a 74-75 but my 76 has a different layout on the voltage regulator wiring harness. What's confusing me is the "I" wire is in a different location and runs to the plug. Thinking the green wire/red stripe is got to be the voltage wire I'm looking for. Finding out the harness is different on the 76

Regardless of how the VR connector was originally pinned, the LG/R wire is always the correct wire to use for the 3G upgrade. That's why that diagram shows it that way, and not by original VR connector layout.
