3pts and armrests...

Tired of fighting 3 pt belts that work terrible... frequently takes 30-60 sec to extend every time you get in (as they lock and don't let you extend them) and need to replace some replacement parchment armrests where you barely have enough room btw the door latch paddle and the padding for a finger, so... both were from EB vendors a few yrs back.

Recommendations:
3 pt belts- who has WORKING seatbelts that you don't fight everytime you put them on... my old S10 belts worked MUCH better than these I got from a reputable EB vendor years ago.

Door armrests- who has some nice ones? These were from an EB vendor also.

Used or new.

Appreciate your input. TIA

Thanks Doyle. I found a few sets on eBay.

Anybody else?

No input or ideas or OE's that fit??? We have one bone yard in the entire county left. Guess I need to go out and see what is available

I’m following to see what you come up with. I need new belts in the J truck, it doesn’t need my standard 5 point set up🤣

The Explorer may too, realized wheeling it that the drivers side never locked in any position. The rear’s do but I don’t sit back there 😂

We've got polar opposite 3pt problems- yours never locks mine barely unlocks! :)

Guess I'm in sticker shock on vendors $190 3 pt harnesses so I'm going to try our only boneyard b4 I possibly order the Humvee ones on line.

Yes I agree. I can buy a set of certified 5pt harness with all forged and heat treated hardware cheaper than I you can buy a replacement 3pt set.

We installed some jy 3 pt. belts from a Nissan Sentra in my Bronco back in the late 80s/early 90s - replaced them with another set a few years later that better color-matched my truck. A few years ago the latches started acting up, and the webbing was getting a little frayed so I decided it would probably be a good idea to replace them.

I used these guys - https://www.seatbeltplanet.com/. I think I first found them at SEMA years ago. They have a wide variety of colors so I was able to find a blue that more or less matches my truck's color scheme.

Seatbelts are one item that I figure I no longer want to pull from yonke vehicles. First - their age and function is always a question mark in terms of safety and longevity. And frankly, most modern vehicles don't have belts that integrate into an EB very well.

Yeah, been thinking about the boneyard trip more this am and that I couldn't visualize any 5 yr old vehicles with a "bolt on" simple mounting system setup that might work... agree with ya TZ- buying used tranny parts is a lot different than buying used safety equipment!

I'm now wondering if the overseas made EB vendors offerings are any difference in quality than any other offering.

So you are still running the OE style Nissan replacement but just buying them new from seatbeltplanet?

I'm headed to your link right now- thanks Todd! :)

https://www.seatbeltsplus.com/category/3-Point-Retractable-Seat-Belts.html another site to look at lots of options these appear to be same as wildhorses,, I used wildhorses as I can return easily for my seats and positioning they worked good for me, I did make a new retractor mounting bracket as i needed it a little different then the one provided,, the enertia lock works good and not overly sensitive. just went back to both sites what todd posted and the one i posted to me appears the price is for one seat belt not a pair ???

Bought a set of seats from a 2002 Montero to put in the EB and some replacement seat belts that fit the seats. Wife saw some 4-point harness belts in a drag car and said that’s what she wanted in the ‘77. I guess I’m happier, but wish she’d talk or me earlier. Lol
Saved the site so she can pick what she wants.

I don’t have a 5 point in anything yet but have wondered if it’s ok to just slide one shoulder strap on when you buckle together? For say quick trips in town where 35 would be the max speed. Side impacts might be an issue, but I’m not sure a shoulder belt does much in that case either. The 4 points Randy mentioned are reasonable too and with one buckle would be quick though I suppose the shoulder straps need loosening to get into before you buckle up.

In my opinion 4 point is worthless. The shoulder straps lift the lap belt up around your chest, I don’t care how tight it is. I’m terrible about just running a lap belt on the street, however I still use the sub belt to ensure my butt stays in the seat. But if I’m on the highway or on any trail it’s all 5. The secret to being comfortable is the sub belt. It let’s everything be a little loose and keep you contained in the seat.

Good point that I’d overlooked. I know the seatbelt is supposed to be around your hips and not up higher or it can do internal damage. When you think about it a regular shoulder belt could even affect the seatbelt though they’re attached much closer to the floor and pull at an angle. I personally know you can still bang your head on a door frame with a shoulder belt, as I did it in my hot rod Regal. 😖 Maybe they need to modify those four points with two belts attached to the front corners of the seat frame as I remember seeing a post somewhere about six point harnesses for those concerned about important parts between the legs. 🤣 Just one buckle to snap together and you could maybe even leave the shoulder straps somewhat loose for local driving as long as they keep you off the steering wheel. I know I’ll be looking at some kind of harness when I get to that point as the roll bar comes to mind when you’re 6’3”. I think of how many years I drove the Bronco with just a seatbelt.

So is the difference between 4 and 5 the “between the legs” strap?

Yes it is.

And for those that feel squeamish about that strap…. I have never had any discomfort caused from it and have had some pretty hard crashes. I can attest the fear is between your ears not between your legs.
Thanks Steve. 🙂 I just went and studied 6 point systems and found they come up through the seat as well so different than what I was picturing.

Well, I’m not too scared about WHERE the strap is. Just have to figure out how to attach it.
