has anyone found a good looking/fitting third brake light retrofit for the hard top? maybe mount above the drip rail. i was looking at the hitch mount ones but just seems a bit hokey.
I know you asked about a hard top, but I have a soft top and went with these (spare tire lug nut brake lights ) of course that is if you have a spare tire mounted in the rear.
Hope this help with the endless options and others innovative ideas.
that's different. i have seen the ones that go behind the spare tire and shine thru holes in wheel. im not planning on running spare tire on the back most of the time. blocks too much of the view.
If you don't mind working with fiberglass, you can make one that fits the profile of the back of your roof. I have a Bronco Design halfcab roof that I modified to fit my truck. I taped a piece of aluminum foil to the spot I wanted the CHMSL and laid down a couple layers of glass to fit the profile . Then cut a piece of plastic to the shape I wanted for the back part of the light and used the resin to glue that piece in place then layered about 5 or 6 layers of matting to that, When it was set up I trimmed the matting to the shape that I liked and glassed a couple studs to the bottom for attaching. I put 5 red LED lights in it.
very nice. i was hoping for a simpler solution but a custom mount proably would be the best looking/fitting option. i have not used fiberglass before. but maybe an option would be to cut the roof piece from the donor car and weld it on to the top.
the F150 lights also have a cargo light built in, which is not really necessary. maybe useful if towing or camping. maybe a suv light would work better.
Any red panel or strip can be stuck INside the glass along the top edge. But you'll need to pull a new wire from the BOO, like '92-96 Broncos, which route it under the driver's threshold, along the bedwall, through a connector into the camper.
