a lot of wisdom on here, I'll just add experience. I'm in Colorado, live at 6500ft, drive 15miles north to 7500ft for work. Setup: Explorer 302 with efl, NV4500, 35" tires and love love love the 4.88s in it. 5th gear the whole way, no dropping to 4th, and my rpms are not obnoxious cruising at 70mph. I think all the sheets and calculators told me 4.1-4.56. glad I went 4.88. Elevation matters.
