About a year ago i aquired a 96 460 short block .030 over with stock efi (flat top) pistons fresh from the machine shop. I also happen to have in my possession a set of d3ve heads which have been ported and polished. My main question is would I run into problems with the compression ratio being too high to run on pump gas with the efi flat tops and d3ve combination?

I think the D3 heads are about 92cc not quite sure about the late model 460 heads but I think they are the same. you might gain 1/2 a point at most. Now the main issue maybe if your trying to run EFI as the EFI heads and carbureted heads do not interchange as the intake manifolds wont bolt up.

If you figure out how many CC's the heads have you should be able to figure out the cmp ratio you will end up with. If the comprssion is way high then a bigger camshaft may help bleed off some of the compression.

You should be just fine; I've built a number of 460s with those heads with flat top pistons. That was essentially the "factory" setup for the engines Ford supplied to OMC that were sold as "King Cobras". The King Cobras were rated at 370HP btw..and the Crusader 460s, still with those heads and flat top pistons, were rated at 340HP.

I have one at 10:1 compression with an rv cam. No issues with detonation but haven't driven it much since the rebuild. I used aluminum edelbrock heads. Edlebrock intake and carb.
