I just noticed that the starter bolt flang on my bronco is cracked. So i want to install a new starter. I have a 4r70w which i guess uses the same as the c4 starter.

what is the best starter to purchase. Parts store starts suck. I sent through 3 on my 66 mustang before i had one keep working.

also, I see several of the high torque starters may not need to use the factory solenoid. I currently will need a new solenoid. so should i not order it. I assume i would not use it with the new starter.

I have mine rebuilt locally now, but I have bought the more expensive new ones from NAPA.
If I can pull a Ford original from the Wrecking yard, I will do that too...

As I remember, it's used for the power connection to the new starter. Look up installation on one of the vendors web site. Acts as a power post.

I use the Ford Explorer starter for the 5.0. The Ford starter (not a rebuild) is rock solid.

Mean Green is expensive but bullet proof.
WH sells them.

If you want to do it once and be done the Mean Green is the hot ticket.

The company that I work for tests them at our Pittsburgh facility. Or at least they still did a few years ago. Haven't checked in a long time.
