4x4x2 and Explorer PS - need adapters

I had all this information saved, but lost the file, and instead of researching for an hour, wondered if anyone had the information at hand. What I have is a 4x4x2 box (79 F150 with 92 F150 guts), and a 97 Explorer PS pump. I'd like fittings sizes for the whole setup, pressure side at pump and box, return at box and a barb size for the drain back if possible. Anyone have it handy?

I just finished mine today:

Here is the best source:

http://classicbroncos.com/tech/explorer-5-0-serpentine-accessory-drive-belt-conversion

However, I ended up not liking the AN fittings to inverse flare, to many pieces to leak.

I went old school and went to a Parker store and had a hi pressure hose made using the explorer pump fitting and the 4x4x2 Hi pressure input fitting. $35.

I bought a NAPA 97 5.0 explorer power steering hose to get the explorer pump connection which is metric ($12). I read to many folks have issue with the AN oring adapter. I then went to Parker store and had them cut the metric fitting off, weld it to a new line and on the other end used the 5/8 flare into the hi pressure side of the 4x4x2. For all intensive purposes it looks like a stock PS line.

I then used napa again and bought the 78 Bronco power steering low pressure outlet with hose, that gets me the low pressure return. and some hose to go to the cooler I then went to the junk yard and pulled two PS coolers, one off an Expedition the other off an F150 with a triton motor, don't know year but both are identical, in fact I saw another ford Excursion with the exact same cooler.

Still working on size of pump inlet hose, im on my way to return a part to napa right now.

So that's what I did.

What PS box are you running? I have a good source here to have any hose and any size fitting made custom, at good prices. I'd prefer to go with fittings and just run steel braided AN lines if possible, but I may look into your route.

Im running the box from west coast broncos, 4x4x2.

I collected all the fittings to use the AN, but decided against after noting the AN fitting bottomed on the land before bottoming on the flare. Might be my box, but decided I wasn't going to play that game, and just discovered the Parker store last week doing brakes, called them and they custom made the hose in 30 minutes while I waited. They used what looks like is the hose they used on the space shuttle, so it should last a few millennia.

You still have the fittings and want to get rid of them? Might be a sale right there! ;)

AN fitting for the Exploder pump is (from us at least ;D) an F2068 16mm adapter here: http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/category/s?keyword=f2068

Not 100% sure about the 4x4x2 conversion, but the standard unmolested 4x4 box from the donor full-size has 1/2x20 and 5/8x18 adapters. If that's the same as the converted box using the later 2wd input section, then our adapters would be:
1. F2963 = high pressure 1/2" side. (http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/category/s?keyword=f2963)
2. F2964 = low pressure 5/8" side. (http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/category/s?keyword=f2964)

Just a suggestion too, for use with the Explorer pump and your own custom hose. This is a very clean route to run the hose through.

Notice the top hose heads towards the passenger side first. Then it runs down through the open space, along the water pump and straight out to the steering gear box. Super sano. Have done it to four or five EB's now and it works well.

If you managed to save all the stock pump and cover bolts too, there are one or two in that area that even have convenient studs on them where you can clamp the hose tight to keep it out of harms way. Not that it would usually have enough movement to bump into any spinning bits, but remember... Overkill is just enough. ;D

I actually mocked one route of the hose like that, I liked it, and is about one inch shorter. The reason I avoided this route, was wear on hoses, it touches in about four spots, and by touch I mean will seriously rub into the hose as time goes by.

My metric fitting looks like this from russel/summit:

I've seen three different seal designs on our shelf too. I'm looking at two of them right now on my desk.
One has an o-ring style captured washer (like in our pic), while the other one has the o-ring recessed into a groove in the actual machined surface of the fitting.

Not sure if there is any particular advantage to one over the other as far as sealing goes, but they are different.

Sounds like you got what you wanted, when I installed explorer power steering pump and 4x4x2 box I called Jason at BC Broncos and had him make up a line for me with correct fittings. A lot less hassle and line fit just fine.

I am running this same setup. I called BC and they needed to order the parts $76.99 for pressure hose and $26.99 for return. The price and the need to order it raised a flag and I just wanted to see if this is similiar to what you got from BC.

I forgot about this post back when 73. I see what you're saying and would certainly avoid any contact areas, but when I did them they had zero areas of contact with anything, so I'm not sure what kind of hose and fittings you were using where that was a problem.
I mentioned the studs on the water pump, and that may be what was keeping the ones I worked on so sanitary and out of the way. The studs were utilized for the rubber-coated stainless clamps to hold the hose in place.

That seems to have been sufficient in these cases.

I believe it should be the F2965 11/16 - 18 to -6 http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/category/s?keyword=f2965

A 4x4x2 box might have a 1/2" port, but as far as I know the stock '75 box should have an 11/16" pressure port.
While some boxes do utilize the smaller of the two ports for the high-pressure side, you are measuring the port farthest forward, correct?
All power steering boxes that I'm aware of, no matter what size the ports are, has the pressure side farthest away from the shaft and seal.

Hope that helps.
