4x4x2 install question

I am in the middle of installing the 4x4x2 steering box and have it mocked up using the rear lower original steering box bolt hole and the rear of the box is crashing into the radiator core support. I was wondering how far rearward can I move the box without having interference with steering linkages. Right now the pitman arm shaft is close to the original location of the manual box and it needs to move rearward about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Or would it be better to clearance the core support and leave the box where it is. Either one is not a big deal at this point. Thanks, Ken

Even using the stock lower hole like you're currently doing, the other two holes you drill are close to the cross member (especially the upper one). If you move it away from the core support, that upper hole is going to be inside the front cross member on the inside of the frame.

Is this a pre-72 Bronco Ken? If it was built before the end of the '72 model year run, then your core support is missing the little bumpout for box clearance.
That was the factory solution, and probably should be yours as well. Moving any gearbox rearward is the last resort unfortunately. It might seem the easiest, but it's already too easy to run into issues with the linkage.

So the best way is to cut a hole, or make a dimple, or whatever, so you can keep the box in the forward position.
It's not the easiest solution. Just the best at this point.

I just did this earlier this summer. Here are some pics of what I did. I cut out the section in black outline and made a box from 16 gauge and welded it in. Hope it helps!

This is a 72 and the example Langester shows is what I was thinking I would have to do. I am making my own plates to weld to the frame and have already notched the body mount for clearance. Thank for the input guys, it is really appreciated. Ken

I used the west coast broncos plate on my 71. It makes for tight clearance for an fittings to frame but no problems with core support clearance
