66 door post assembly

Working on a 66, so bought the 66 posts, they came as two pieces. Do they just weld together at the outer seam, or should they be put on and then welded?

I put on and weld as you will need to weld behind them. Where did you get them? I had trouble with my first ones. They makes different versions of these in Taiwan. Compare them to the originals very closely. The humps will be in different palces and shape if wrong.

from Carpenter, but they were actually GT something or other. Looks like only specific 66 ones made. I'll compare tomorrow.

Did you get your door posts installed and if so how did it go? I have a '67 bronco and need to order front door posts. I don't know if I should get the 66-67 specific post, such as you did, or the cheaper later style which I understand will fit the 66-67s.

I am trying to preserve original assembly, but the laters would have been a lot easier. Looking back I would have done differently too. I welded the door side first, then pulled it to get the inner side to touch. If I had welded the post together I couldn't have done that. I also had to shave the inner parts to get the angles to close up better.
Looking back, I wish I had cut the inner bracing loose, IIRC the lower was welded in to deep and didn't meet the kick panel as I finally realized it was supposed to. Don't think will be an issue with low use, but would for a daily driver.
