Hello All, just joined the community about 2 months ago with a lovely uncut 67 wagon. Was unsure at first because of the motor, size small to some, but after driving it I love it. The Bronco is pretty damn stock (why I got it), 3 on the tree, vacuum pump wipers, actually has interior tail gate spare mount, you name it. I plan to try and keep it that way (With in reason - safety items - as we do have a toddler). The Bronco was produced in Oct 66 and sold in Jan 67 right where we live - New Mexico.

With all that said, the Bronco did not come with the original oil bath air cleaner. Here is a link of what that looks like (Cycle through until you see the motor): 66 Rodster

Currently, a bit of an embarrassment, (2) 4" x 2" diameter air filters stacked on top of each other with the chrome housing, same size, threaded and screwed into where that oil bath unit should be. I can share photo if necessary.

Finally question - Advantage to having oil bath on (heard it's tough to get the filters if it doesn't come with it)? What could I use to replace it, and would this require replacing the whole piece - with say something from a 289 or 200 ci motor? Recommendations, ideas, more questions? Thanks!

I bought my 66' with a paper air cleaner attached to the stock housing. I was crazy enough to pay a few hundred bucks for a real nice original oil bath cleaner and even ordered the cool stickers for it. So far I am running it dry but I am going to try a paper filter in it and see what I can rig-up. If that does not work, I might be daring enough to fill it up with oil. So far I don't regret it and it sure looks cool!

I bought my 66 from the original owner and this what it came with. I asked him about the oil bath unit and he claims his never came with one. Looks to be the same as a Falcon, Mustang or any other small Ford six from the era.

Welcome to the forum :) Tried to open your link for pics but it doesn't seems to work. The oil baths had a fiber element inside. I'm not sure I've ever seen a replacement. The oil baths are cool all the same, they turn up now and then for sale.

Yes you would need to find an assembly like rmk57 has above, from a 170 or 200 engine. Mustang housing would be your best bet as VERY few Broncos had them. I ran one on mine but it was from a 66 Mustang.

Try this site, it searches salvage yards

www.car-part.com

and welcome aboard, would love to see pics of your 67!!

my 66 came with the wrong air cleaner when I bought it. I was able to buy one from a member of the forum as correct for a 66. my u14 was built in nov 66.

Or run the chrome 4 inch cleaner like I did for about 60,000 miles of troublfree operation. Oil baths are from generation where more roads where dirt or gravel than pavement.

170 air cleaner

You might find one over on fordsix.com from a Mustang etc
The members on that site often have various extra parts for sale and several of them are in NM. You may want to visit the site anyway as it is a valuable resource for the Ford six owner.
On my original 170 I used a generic chrome air cleaner from Grand Auto I believe. Seemed to work well

Thanks Everyone for your comments and help!

Not sure but I was never notified about posts on my thread. I just happened to come back on it tonight!

Still looking, almost had one off a roadster here in Albuquerque, motor doesn't turn but the guy wanted to sell the whole Bronco, rust and all.

Saludos!

You can go up to the upper left of any page and click User CP > scroll down to Edit Options > Messaging & Notification > Default Thread Subscription Mode there is a drop down, sounds like that's what you need to change.

Not sure what the default is but mine is set to Instant Email Notification
