7.50x16 Bias Ply Alternates

I am seeking any and all comments/opinions/suggestions on replacement options for my old bias ply tires:

I have been running 7.50-16 bias ply tires on a 16x5 rim and really like the look/stance. The tires are actually BFG Silvertowns which are about 30 years old but are getting really worn. I love the vintage look but tires like that are difficult to find for a reasonable price. Also I feel a modern radial tire would offer better on-road manners, ride quality and hopefully lower road noise

The new tires should be tall, skinny all terrain radials with a lower load rating (load range C). I have spent a lot of time looking at different options from tire manufacturers and I am leaning towards a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs in a 265/75/16 size (load range C) mounted on a 16x7 white spoke rim with 4” backspacing. This size will be very close to the same diameter as my old 7.50-16 but almost 3” wider. Bronco is a 73 with discs & steering linkage from a 77.

I have considered the BFG All Terrain (and several other brands) but they are only available in a load range E. I fear that I will not be happy with the ride quality of a higher load range tire.

Thanks for the advice.

IMO you'll be surprised at the ride quality of a load range E tire with proper air pressure, I can assure you it will be better than the bias tires that you have now by far. 25-28 psi should be just about right with your rig.

nice looking rig too!!!

I liked them too. closest thing to them is P255/85/16. Its what I run on mine. Spare is a left over SS 10.50X34 which in real life is only 33" inches tall. The P255/85/16 will be taller. I hate to quote a ht because I have been running them for 20 years on several vehicles and every time I buy them the ht is different. But it will be between 33' and 34".

235/85/16 will be almost identical to the 7.50x16 bi-plys and most all brands have that size, however if you want a set of 7.50x16 bi-plys chk out these, I run these on a BII I wheel and really like them. I was surprised how well these tires ride, they are a soft but really work well offroad and really do good in the snow, packed and fresh.
