For you guys and gals out there who have done this conversion. What are you using between the bottom of the tilt column where it comes through the fire wall and the power steering box?

Do you have to replace the rag joint, lower steering shaft and everything all the way down to the input shft on the box?

THanks!

I used two Flaming River u-joints and a collapsible steering shaft.

I used a rag joint and collapsible shaft, both out of a 89 F150 donor vehicle and a flaming river u-joint at the steering box.

Any way to do it inexpensively?

Ahhh...so is there anyway to do this without spending $200 on steering shaft parts?

It seems to be one of the more pricey conversions when it's all done.

Hey Bulldog;

Any chance you have any pics you could share? I would really appreciate it!

How did you mate the upper end of the F 150 steering shaft with the lower end of the tilt column?

Here you go Banjer, I think you can get the f150 parts for $10 at any wrecking yard, the Flaming River U-Joint is going to cost you a few $ more, but it is worth it IMO to make the set up safe.

A cheap option to the flaming river joint, are the steering ujoints out of mid 1990's ford escorts. One wrench and 3 minutes and they are out from under the dash. Pick a part only charged me 5 bucks. I have used them in 4 high performance sand rails and will be using them in my eb next.

I can appreciate the safety factor, but other than that is there any reason that the factory EB shaft and rag joint wont mate to the 79 column.

this is awesome info guys. thanks. I did not want to spend $400 on a steering shaft. Also i was looking at a 07 f-150 on the hoist today. I wonder if that shaft would work to.Ujoints at both ends with a colapsable section.Just to put that out there.
