There is a bearing there, that may have pushed out of the lower part of the column. I had this issue, but I got rid of the rag joint and did a bunch of other stuff at the same time, so I will let the more knowledgeable Bronco folks comment on exactly what you need to fix. Also, I believe the lower bearing or shim is different for different years.

The picture doesn't quite show what is above the rag joint... Put if there is a clamp above it, i.e. the nut sticking strait up, then you can loosen the bolt, slide the clamp up towards the steering column to remove the slop (move the bearing back up into the race). Don't know how long it has been this way, but if unknown, I would be tempted to remove the steering column/steering shaft and grease the bearing...

Another thought is, is what the bearing rides in damaged/missing/worn out?

As stated above, they changed the steering column set ups over the years...

@SteveL good question…. I don’t want to mess with it unless it’s dangerous not to. Will move to aftermarket tilt column and collapsible shaft in next 6 months….. one, can it wait? Two, do you have a favorite tilt column? I was looking at Wild Horse because I just bought a 9 hole wood steering wheel I love. Appreciate the feedback
