Wow! that is great work. How did you go about sealing the halfcab bulkhead to the floor and side filler panels. Not sure what they did from the factory but i'm in the process of building a halfcab and am thinking of how to best seal it all up.
Can you give some info on the paint process. Epoxy primer? High build primer? body filler over bare metal or over epoxy primer... that sort of stuff. Getting ready for paint on mine and need all the help I can get.
I used 3m black strip caulk to seal the bulkhead. Took several strips and formed a roll about the diameter of a pen and ran along the bottom and up the sides where the bolts go.
As far as the paint & body process, you'll find that if you ask 10 different bodymen you'll probably get 10 different answers back on how to do things. I personally am not a fan of epoxy primers. I use self etching primer instead. I know many are preaching the strip to bare, spray with epoxy then do bodywork routine, I guess I'm to set in my ways. I was taught filler needs to be applied directly to bare metal to insure a good bond and thats the way I always do it.
My routine is I strip to bare usually with a chemical stripper, do any mud work that needs done then spray a coat of self etching primer, let it flash off and follow with 3 good wet coats of a 2k build primer. Apply a guide coat then block sand with 150/180 then apply 3 more coats of 2k build primer. Then do final wetsanding with either 400 or 600 grit. Mask it up, apply a sealer, shoot the basecoat and finish off with 4 coats of clear. Then let it sit at least a week and come back and colorsand and buff it out.
