Hi all! Figured I would start a build thread on here to help me along with encouragement and criticism. First off my bronco is in really bad shape body wise. Bought it 4 years ago from the neighbor for $1k. Started with the drive train, rebuilt the front axle with a true trac locker, 31 spline with a detroit 3rd member and yukon axles in the rear with 4:88 gears. Smoked the rough running 302 the 2nd trip to the dunes. Following year bought a windsor, stock lower end, edelbrock vic jr. heads, air gap intake, mild cam, and a holley hp750. Dyno'ed at 390hp/425tq. Tranny went at the sand dragway on the first day. Sent c-4 to performance automatic and they did their supercomp package on it. 1000hp rated, reverse pattern with brake. Needless to say it is a lot of fun! On my quest to more speed I bought my buddies 800hp 496bbc and an adapter for the c-4. We did not exchange money as he wanted me to make sure motor was ok (was tore down in pieces). Had everything lined up for motor to be rebuilt and long story short 6 months later the engine guy still had not touched it. Got mad and gave up, took motor back to buddy (was not keen on the chevy in a ford anyway) and 6 months later got a killer deal on a coyote. What a perfect match! A motor that is light weight and strong just begging for power adders! So this years plan is to get motor in and see how it runs with hopes of adding a pair of precision 62mm turbo's next year. This year I will be adding boss intake, aeromotive fuel rails, aeromotive stealth fuel cell, #10 supply/#8 return, 47lb injectors and run on e-85. I think the c-4 with a 4500 stall converter will give me the performance I need on the sand strip? That's my 4 year history as short as I could tell it, don't want to bore anyone.
Now 2 weeks ago I started in the shop and removed the body...boy this thing is in worse shape than I thought body wise but will have to work for now. I plan on keeping the trans in stock location due to drive shaft angle if I make it a long travel down the road. After reading chucks build I may have radiator clearance issues but I'll try. Another issue is I think I could use the counter weight when/if I add turbo's. I bought a bell housing from PA and will locate engine that way. I wanted some extra room up front so I cut the crossmember out in the front along with the stock motor mounts and cleaned the frame up so far. In another week I will get back at it, been working some OT. Guess I'll have to read up on how to insert images.

Nice!!! Looking forward to seeing another Coyote swap...That'll be a beast, but the twin turbo charged, That thing will be a beast!!!

My build will not be as fancy as the others but should be interesting. Someday she will be pretty but not until I can pull the front tires off the sand! Also doing hydro boost and tossing around doing full hydraulic steering. Might make install easier do to the clearance issue chuck had with steering shaft?

Nice to see another Bronco with paddle tires. What times were you running at the sand drags? And good choice not running that other motor.

My best time was a disappointing 6 flat at 54 mph. I want to be mid 4's but that won't happen till I put turbo's on it. I am hoping the coyote will put me mid to low 5's N/A. Intake, injectors, cold air, long tubes on e-85 will put me around 500hp at crank. They did a intake comparison with my exact setup on a mustang and it put down 456hp at the tires. Weight is another issue, I was 4300lbs but have been cutting as much crap off as possible so curious to see where it will be.

For reference, mine is a little over 400hp at the crank, weighs 3500lbs, 4.11:1 rear gears and 16.50 SU tires. My best run was 5.2 at 65mph. That's also leaving off the foot brake. I think with less gear and a trans brake that I could leave closer to 3k rpm I could be at 5.0, maybe a 4.9, in the right conditions.

I could not pinpoint my issue but I think it was the converter. I don't understand because it was built off the dyno numbers and weight and all the other questions they ask. I would use the brake and leave off the converter which was 4200 and the rpms would only climb to about 5200 and stay there forever. I would have to run 1st out forever to get it to climb to 6200 which with the stock converter and trans rpm's would climb much faster. I really think the converter was crap. I used whoever PA uses so am apprehensive to use them with this build even though they really specialize in the Ford stuff coyote included. I think I am going to try PTC? I should have the right gears and setup just need to shed some pounds.

Did a little mock up today. Going to be really tight around the shock and spring brackets. I should just pull the trigger now and cut that stuff off and do king coilovers. At least making progress

I used to leave the line at 7000 and shift at 7200 most guys I ran against used low range if they got me out the hole I would fly past them before the finish line after I got hooked up;D

Are you running in low or high. ?

Finally took a weekend off from work to get a little done. I wanted to get the motor mounted but found that I was sent 2 lefts so I will have to wait but did finish the mid plate. Also put the body back on just to check fit. There will plenty of room up front for the turbo's but will have to stay full width to keep it easy. I really like the looks of the narrowed front but will live with it. I also was thinking about stretching the front axle forward but then the shock hoops would be in the way of where I want to put the power adders. Wheelbase measured 93", I guess it will be more fun to drive that way! Time to go to B'dubs and have some beer and watch ball!

Tubing bender???

Finished gettting the motor mounts welded. Shocks were ordered a week ago from Filthy Motorsports, boy did I get an education! He talked me out of the 2.5" X 16" travels for 2.0's with 14" travel. His reasoning was 2 factors, 1 being ride height with the 16" travel would be high and with the HP I will be running the lower the better. 2: I will only run it about 30 minutes at a time and he said that the shocks work best when the oil comes up to tempurature and that the 2.5's woiuld just be coming up to operating temp in that amount of time for the type of running I'll be doing which makes sense. I also ordered them with the compression adjusters which should be a nice feature since I am not planning on running bypass shocks.
So I need some direction on tubing benders. I am pretty much sold on the JD model 32. Since my engine is now mounted I wanted to start on the front suspension. To keep cost down, can I get away with 1 3/4" DOM for my front shock hoops or is it to much overkill? I plan on making my cage out of same material and that would allow me to kill 2 birds with one stone unless that would not be a good idea???? Another thing is what is the best all around CLR die to purchase for cage? Do I go with the smallest, largest, or the one in between? I plan on buying a 1" or 1 1/4" die to do the core support and misc brackets. Things will start moving here once my shocks come. I need to determine my ride height so I put the front axle truss in the right spot to get the best pinion angle. If my caster is off I will just re-clock the knuckles. Anything I am forgetting feel free to let me know and will keep posting pics as I move forward.... at a snails pace!

This project has taken a crazy turn. I am building (trying) a clone to Maui Matt's bronco skinned buggy. I have accumulated most parts....skins should be here in a couple weeks from Bronco designs, have powerglide, full width HP 44, 14" kings, Overtime CNC straight through transfer case, sold my original coyote and bought a Coyote aluminator SC model (built for boost) and adding 2 precision 62mm turbos and getting ready to order a Ruff stuff fab 9 rearend. I just got the main frame rails bent up and cross bars made. Hopefully get welded up this week and then I want to get engine/Trans mounted over spring break.
