8 lug HD 44 vs Dana 60

Does anyone know if the parts from a HD 8 lug Dana 44 From the late 70s F250s are interchangeable with the regular High pinion Dana 44 (5 lug) from the same years.

gears yes, axle shafts on the hd are different length, stib shafts should be the same, i beleve the spindles are different if i recall

Caliper backing plates will not interchange. The backing plate themselves fit, but the calipers hit the knuckles as they are different shape. This is usually an issue for someone trying to use the 8 lug knuckles for high steer and keeping the 5 lug brakes/calipers.

BUCKWILD- since the stub shafts will work, are the U-joints the same? I.E. can I use normal 44 stub shaft with HD main shaft?

reynard101- is there a benefit of using the 5 lug brake calipers? Just wondering why someone wouldn't just use the 8 lug calipers.

Finally, anyone know if parts are readily available at parts store or summit.

Shafts should work just fine. Mix and match should be no issue.

Biggest benefit is using a 5 lug wheel, if that's what you already have. The master cylinder may or may not be large enough for the twin piston 8 lug calipers. There may be some issues with a 15" wheel with the twin piston caliper. Not sure about this though.

Wear items are readily available. Rotors, pads, calipers.

I never considered the potential need for a bigger bore master cyl due to the dual piston brakes. Also the info about 15s possibly not fitting is a great consideration as well.

I have a junkyard hydro boost (astrovan) with a mid 80s Vette mast Cyl. Think that will create enough volume and pressure for dual calipers?
