Hi all -
Long time since I posted anything or have even been on here... anyway today while looking around craigslist I ran across this 9" rear with factory disk brakes. I spoke to the owner who stated it comes from a mid 70's Mark V. He also has another that he says comes from a 70's LTD. Have not been out to look at them yet but from the pics it looks pretty complete. He wants $350 but I don't think that price is firm and he says I can have my pick of which ever one I want. My question is, is this something I should invest in?

Same crappy parking brake as the Cadillac calipers. Rotors are the car lug pattern so you'll need to have a machine shop re-drill them to 5x5.5. Caliper brackets double as the bearing retainers, so you'll have to remove your axle bearings, install the caliper brackets, then press on new bearings. That or have the caliper brackets notched so you can slip them on over the axle. Bolt pattern on the brackets will only fit large bearing rear ends. Not small bearing or the medium "Torino" housings. Bolt holes are generally 1/2" which is what you want for an EB, but I have has one set that had 3/8" bolts. This required the machine shop who drilled the rotors for me to enlarge the holes as well. Calipers will require you to move the stock rear shock location just like the Caddy setup. Either that or swap the calipers side to side and run them in the front. If you do this, it pretty much defeats the parking brake feature as you now have to figure out how to loop the parking brake over the axle and back to the front of the rotor to reach the caliper. A lot of issues involved, but doable. I've been running them on my '69 for over a decade, but don't like not having the parking brake hooked up.

Do the Lincoln calipers adjust for pad wear with the actuation of the parking brake and a ratchet mechanism on caliper piston like the Caddy calipers? If so, it seems like you would need to use the parking brake or you pedal would get lower and lower as the pads wore.

Also, you may want to check the prices on the Lincoln components, as everything on the rear end in the pictures looks suspect. You might be money ahead to go aftermarket.

Thanx for the reply's, I was also thinking that by those pics there would be alot of work and the need to replace parts in addition to the modifications needed.
I was looking at some of the aftermarket kits as well, is there one that is preferred above the rest?

Thanx, Bob

I put together my own kit using bolt on brackets from LEB Racing for a total of $316. I'm not sure how that compares to other kits, but I think it is reasonable.

I bought the brackets and spacers for $150. I didn't need backing plates because my Yukon shafts came with them.

Loaded Rabestos professional grade calipers (RC4141, RC4142) $97.35

Rabestos professional grade rotors (6048R) $68.68
