9" Third Member - Pinion Guard?

I haven’t looked at the picture yet, but I think what you’re describing is known as a “pinion snubber” instead.
It was used primarily in the large cars where they could put a rubber bump stop above it. Not sure if it was thought to reduce Piñon climb under acceleration or not, but more likely for simple over travel duties. Maybe both…

I had one and really wanted to use it. I like even a little shielding above. Even on an off roader.
But it was a 3.0 ratio and somebody needed one and I didn’t feel like doing a rebuild.
