'95 Mustang Mill and EFI to swap or not?

Guys I have acquired a '95 mustang motor with efi in tact minus wiring and computer. I have always had intentions of doing an explorer efi swap but I just received this mustang motor for a great price of free. I have a lot of options here and would like some help deciding what direction to go. For the near term my goal is to get efi into my bronco as efficiently (cheap) as possible. To my knowledge I can't just put the efi onto my mill since it has a set of tall port aluminum heads on it. In the big picture I want to run a 4r70w and mill from a donor explorer but that isn't possible at this time. Current setup is a 30 over 302 and c4. The c4 is still in good operating condition and shifts good. I can't justify replacing something that is currently working fine. Any help, or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Since both motors are 302's you should be able to port match the intake/heads and just keep using your block. Might take a little investigation to pull this off. Are the heads stock or were they ported aftermarket? Assuming you can pull off the porting, the rest is just a matter of bolting it on. Good luck.

Without a harness or computer, my impression is that you din't get a good efi motor for swapping, you just got a free core or short block swap.

Personally, unless that 95 block is running better than your 302, I'd sell it and use the funds to get a complete EFI setup.

Well, if you have the sensors then I would say use the Mustang stuff on your current motor and get the EFI Harness from one of the vendors. It should be able to bolt up to your existing block even if it is one of the original bronco motors.

The biggest obstacle the you are going to have to figure out are the lower intake to head gasket seals. However, if you look at the different options as the engines evolved you should be able to find some that are close enough and will seal up well. Other than that you are gonna need a spacer between the upper and lower intakes to clear the taller valve covers. You will probably need a 1/2" to 1" spacer to clear the valve covers. Just mock it up with washer or whatever and get the appropriate spacer. After that your biggest obstacle is gonna be hood clearance and if there is enough with the intake spacer on there. Good Luck if you decide to use the mustang EFI stuff.

Hard to say what to do without knowing exactly what you have!

Thanks guys. The heads are ProComp. The machining is terrible, the push rods are at odd angles to the point the guide plates had to be ground to clearance them. About the only good thing are the roller rockers on them. broncoitis I see your point with the taller valve covers I will need a spacer. I currently have an air gap intake that did match up to the intake ports. I was "told" that most aftermarket intakes would not match to these heads. I am just going off of "hear say" on this. The current engine is the original 75 302, 30 over, headman long tube headers. I did not build this motor so i'm unsure of the internal components. It is a long story on the mustang 5.0 but basically the motor was pulled because the previous owner believed the rear main seal went out of it. He had another one sitting around and decided to just do a complete swap rather than pulling the original one and resealing it. It came out of a perfectly good running/driving car other than the fact it leaked oil. As far as the hood clearance issue goes I should be fine. I believe it was a 2" body lift that I installed years ago. I run a sag ps pump and a york compressor for my OB air. If I stuck with my 302 I wouldn't have to mess with any of that. I definitely don't want to lose my compressor setup since I have multiple backups. I am unsure of the serpentine setup with a sag pump also. This might sound crazy but will my v-belt accessories swap over to the 5.0? I believe the crank pulley has a different bolt pattern? I have a 3g alt and don't believe that is any sort of an issue either way I go. Another obstacle I will have is the '05 SD hydro boost but I can work around that. Hope this info helps.

After doing a fair bit of research am I correct on saying I would have a rough idle issue if I swapped the efi on my existing 302? I thought I read today that the firing order is different on our old v8's and would result with this issue and a cam swap would be the only way to resolve it.

You can buy a cheap harmonic Balancer from summit that has both bolt patterns to keep your current setup. And swapping efi With an older "wrong" cam has worked out ok for lots of people. Some even like the way it sounds unique , haha.

Thanks ren. I need to get to the junk yard and start pulling some parts. I think I have a clue of what is going on here. I'm sure I will have more questions down the road.
