I am wanting to use the factory intake from the 97 explorer and I believe that the MAF assembly is built into the air filter box. I figure I could hollow out the aluminum area to remove any air restriction from it and add a mustang MAF sensor between the filter box and throttle body. I snagged the ACT sensor and connector when I got the intake tube. What do ya'll pros think about the intake idea. I have read DanWheelers thread and learned alot.

That MAF comes out of that housing, if you take that internal baffle out. BUT you will need a MAF out of a Mustang if you plan to use a Mustang based eec. You can however use the Explorer ACT in the Explorer intake tube, as well as the throttle body.

If your going to use EDIS and the Explorer eec, with a Tweecer then it will work just fine.

You could just swap the MAF sensor for a '94-'95 mustang sensor and leave the 70mm housing as it is.

I thought the MAF housing and the MAF sensor needed to be matched to each other. Does it not matter?

If the MAF measures the air going through the MAF housing wouldn't the MAF sensor be calibrated to the diameter of the MAF housing?

You're right, it does matter, and I believe the '94-'95 mustang and explorer use the same housing.

So I could use a 94-95 Mustang MAF and it will fit in my housing and then run the 89-92 mustang distributor, A9L computer and RJM harness with everything matching for the computer? That would be great!

I just searched and found 94-95 Mustangs have 70 mm MAF/housings and here is a good picture that does look like it will fit. That Viper is one sharp cookie.

yes, he is - and extremely helpful too :) I couldn't have done my EFI without him and all the other knowledgeable guys on this board.

For some reason I'm thinking the Mustang Cobras had the 70mm MAF, Mustang GTs had 60mm and Explorers had 65mm.

could be just pulling numbers out of my ass though.

Earlier mustang MAF housing was smaller. Any of these will work.
