Jim, Patrick, Morgan, Jon, and anyone else I spoke with,
I just installed a used NV3550 into a 69 Bronco, which had a NP435 in it for many years.
The vehicle that the donor transmission came out of had a T-shift T-case and the 69 had a J-shift. So I needed a few odds and ends to make the transfer complete which Jim was able to get to me via an open kit they had. Then there was gaskets, throw-out bearing, pilot bushing, a few instructions, J-shift twin stick shifters and boots from JB Fab.
Along the way it was discovered that that the donor bronco had a NV4500 spacer plate that had the wrong clocking for a D20. Austin at Advanced adapters was able to supply a template that allowed me to re-drill and re-tap the correct holes in the spacer plate so the clocking was correct. (Clocking (Dodge) was 10* off where it needed to be)
The next hurdle came when I couldn't get the drive gear assembly into the t-case. Thanks to James Rooney for helping identify that the T-case had rock eater gears in it, which required the intermediate gear removal to install the drive assembly.
The last bump in the road required some trimming of the AA crossmember for clearance since there is a 1/2" thickness difference between the NV4500 and the correct NV3550 spacers. The output shaft of the Transmission had already been shortened, so I had to stay with what I had...
I have about 25 miles on the conversion and all is good so far. Thanks Gentlemen for all your help, sometimes it takes a Village to keep a Bronco on the road.
Doug.
