I have a dana 20 connected to an aod with the advance adapter kit. I bought a J-shifter and i cant see how it fits. does this shifter no longer work because of the height change with the addapter. If not what shifter for the transfer case do i need? also if anyone else out there has dont this what other mods will i need to do . i have a 77 bronco with a 3.5 in suspension lift and a 2 inch body lift. The motor is a 302 from my 69' stang. i was told to use a calbe shifter for the tranny. I have also read that its gonna be a problem witht the throttle valve kick down lever. any help is appreciated with this set up! i used an aod out of a 1990's mustang. i had it built by huges transmissions here in phoenix. I bought this as a shell, body suspension and axels so I am starting from scratch. anyone know of a parts place other that driven auto in the phoenix ,AZ area?

Can't help you on the J shifter as I have a T shifter d20 attached to my AOD. The other mods you may need to make is move your crossmember back 1.5" or drill new holes. You may need to shorten your driveshaft and lengthen your front. I used a Lokar Shifter and Kickdown cable and it works great. Hope this helps you some. ;D

They have different adapters for the years of the AOD but not the shifters.

I know the J-shift can be used, sorry but I used the t-shift but I used to know those who have used the J-shift and they did get it to work with some mods.
Also you can use an E.B. auto column shifter, you use an F-150 shift arm on the tranny so it moves from approx. 9:00 to 5:00 and flaten it out a little bit and cut and thread the linkage from the column to the shift arm and lengthen it with some all thread and unions and jam nuts.
I think if you just look at the adapter and J-shifter you will see a way to make it work.
As far as the cross member A.A. used to be pretty good at sending the info on what mods it needed.
Heres a pic of the modified likage and shift arm.

You usually have to twin stick the J shifter to get it to work with many of the non factory trannies out there. It simplifies the shifter and lets it play nice with the shifter mounting bracket/adapter.
