Once again (been confused with them before) trying to figure out which kit I need for a 1999 2wd 4r70w. I talked to AA and wild horse. I dont understand 23 spline vs 27 spline. I thought the 50-2704 e was the right one. Help me understand the different spine counts. Wild horses only had one spindle count in stock (not the one they said I needed for 2wd). AA said it don’t matter, but they did not have either. Long story of why I am in this situation, but I need an adapter pront to get out of my situation lol. Conflicted again in Mississippi.

2704e is correct for a 2WD to Bronco adapter. Don't get caught up in the spline count. That adapter has both output shaft and transfer case input Matching spline) spud shaft.

Thanks for pulling me out of the spline count spin cycle. AA actually had it right, they said either would work, but I got a different answer at the other vendor. So the AA output shaft and spud shaft are a matching pair and that is unrelated to the trans?

There are two kits available for the 4R70W...

One is the one outlined above ^^^ for the two wheel drive trans, but it also can be used on the Explorer 4x4 transmission. But you go into the transmission on both and replace the output shaft and change out the adapter at the back of the Transmission case. This one pushes the T-case back 1.5 inches. As BB says ignore the spline numbers...

The other kit is specifically for the Explorer 4x4 transmission, you do not change out the transmission output shaft. If fact, you do not have to get into the transmission at all if is known to be good. There is an adapter ring and new spud shaft, bearing and collar. This one pushes the T-case back 3 inches.

AA actually told me the first kit is the better way to go for the 4x4 transmission, simpler and it is always good to take a look inside the transmission.

Doug.

The transmission output shaft, goes in through the front. So you do need to take the transmission apart and put it back together. As for how much rebuilding you do in the process of taking it apart and putting back together? That is up to you. Sounds like you have done transmissions before. This should not be bad since it sounds like you have experience.

Actually, I have someone rebuilding it, but I am always willing to learn.
