Alice signal mod and new turn signal buckets Q.

Have a 76 and pulled off the turn signal lenses to look at for future "Alice" turn signal mod and found my turn signal buckets extremely rusty. Shocking!
I believe that Ford never changed the grill, just the turn signal buckets, is this correct?
My plan is to buy 66-67 turn signal buckets since I need new ones anyway and install in grill. Will they still need to be modified? Will they fit correctly?
Thanks guys. David

Can't help much it's been to long since I did mine, but you do have to alter the grill. To make the buckets fit. Easy to do also the 66-67 lens is different. Contact WH they can walk you thru process at least they did me.For what ever reason I had to later add a seperate ground wire.
Good luck,
Roger

Ill have to dig for the detailed pictures... But here's what they look like, yes I did/do have a post on here somewhere on them;)
The conversion I did takes very little modification to the grille, replaces entire bucket... Total cost w lights and aluminum was 52 bucks when I did mine... Clear when off amber when on

I never did understand why Ford changed the marder light in the grille in the first place other than possibly DMV regulations on minimum size. %)

I didn't know about that adapter plate from WH. That's pretty slick.

My solution was much less slick. ;)

This is assuming you're replacing the entire bucket with the earlier 66-68 versions. You need to grind out one side of the grille backing plate for the body of the 66-68 bucket to fit. You'll also need to oval out the existing mounting hole since the 66-68 bucket stud is in a slightly different spot.

That leaves you with the 2nd stud that has no where to mount. I just took a large fender washer and ground down one side to clear the bucket housing. As you bolt it all in place the grille backing plate gets sandwiched between the fender washer and 66-68 signal bucket.

Because the 66-68 lenses are smaller you'll be left with one of the old mounting holes exposed. I welded mine closed and ground it down since I was repainting the grille anyway.

Instead of modifying the grille by cutting it, I modified the housing instead. Since I used the old housings (70) by cutting them down to size, I figured a very small dent in the side of the housing wasn't going to make much difference when the lens was on. By doing that I only needed a small 1" wide by 2.5" strip of aluminum to hold the bucket on. No modifying of the grille required.
