I was just about to leave for a few hours when I notice smoke billowing from the shop. I raced to the shop to see the upstairs full of smoke with flames burning along the ridgeline and starting on the floor. I grabbed a fire extinguisher went in the upstairs and emptied the thing. Raced back down stairs to another building got another fire extinguisher and used it up. Fire department arrived and I began moving broncos out after sprinting to get keys. I am so glad I had those fire extinguishers. The wind was howling today and fire dept. said I would have lost everything if we hadn't called so fast. The shop is a 100 plus year old building, lots of gas, diesel, propane, 2 broncos, 3 pickups, lots of landscaping related equipment. So lucky none of those caught.

Also very thankful to the fire dept. and all of their volunteers. Must have been 30 of them here. Thanks to all Fire and Police who help everywhere!

Close call!! So glad you had a happy ending. After seeing MarsChariots story and a few others, I am terrified of a fire destroying a Bronco. I am going to get another extinguisher tomorrow after reading this.

WOW, that got the adrenaline going... SO glad you and your shop contents are OK. I was a FF volunteer for 25 years... always nice to save a building rather than do "mop-up"... I'm in WA, what city are you?

Those "cute" little Kiddie fire extinguishers last about 5 seconds... good idea to keep three of them all in the same spot so you can grab them fast!

Thanks. I have to thin out a lot old stuff to make the monster less of a threat.

Glad it ended well. I had a small fire yesterday when fitting up and tacking a roll bar together. Caught it quick and put it out with window cleaner as that was the closest thing at hand. Just a few more seconds and the foam in seat would likely have ignited and that would have got hot quick. Your story and my mishap will definitely influence me to buy several fresh extinguishers. Thanks for sharing.

My family has many antique cars 1908-1930. I am the Asst.
Chief of our FD in town. One day my dads building caught fire from a lighting strike and when our crews arrived we starting to push the cars out of the building. We always kept the cars in gears to prevent them from free rolling. We quickly learned many people didn't know how to put them in neutral or release the e brake. Luckily the fire was contained and no damage but it brought a good point. Now we never park the cars in gear or with the e brake on. If we worry about rolling we stick a pencil under the tire. It holds it in place and is easily to be pushed right over. I know the young guys in my department don't have a clue how to drive my three on the tree. Glad your fire was quickly contained today.

Really glad to hear everything worked out in this case, that sounded like a very close call.

Fire Department Captain said wiring. It burned along the wires in the upstairs.

Thanks for all of the nice thoughts.
Sorry LTL4 life about your 1st Bronco.

After cleaning up and throwing out lots of junk, boxes and scrap lumber my son and I washed broncos and took some photos.

That is really scary. Two days ago I replaced the carb on my 440 Mopar in the garage. Fired it up and ran well, then started sputtering. I got out of car and went around to see fuel pouring out of the fuel line. OMG. Shut down quickly and could hear it sizzling on manifolds. Got extinguisher nearby and started soaking it up with rags. Filled up valley pan, everything. Garage and house still stinks even though everything cleaned. I felt sick for a day after despite doors being open. Gas is not something to play with. Turns out the little gasket on the OEM metal fuel line where it attaches to carb fell out and I didn't notice.. Wow.

Thank you Hotfeet. My fire was due to a 2001 Ford Excursion 7.3
Self igniting under the hood destroying it, the garage and ruining the Bronco not to mention all of my tools.

Wow, how awful to loose all of that.
Its amazing how many folks on here have had close calls or have lost things to fire. I haven't been particularly concerned about fire but I am now. I think I am going to add one to Bronco and one to my work truck also.

Hey Hotfeet (no pun intended right:) ) Nvrstuk is our Ellensburg Bronco guy, how has he not seen these two nice Broncos? That barn would have been a huge loss too! I love the big old barns like that.
