OK, My turn for a dumb question, not that its my first. The nut for the Alt. pulley, is it normal thread or reverse?. Its so darned tight I want to make sure before I go any further.
Second dumb question, has anyone heard of a backside idler pulley for a
v- belt?

Normal thread, You might need a air wrench to get it off, thats what I needed this weekend.

Can't help on the other question.

Not too sure what you mean by a "backside idler pulley".
I believe I have seen one. The one I saw ran on the back of the V-belt that was stretched on a very long run. It helped to keep the belt from slopping around so much when operating. Is this what you are reffering to?

Right Bert, it does exactly what you said. I know all the serpinetine belts have them but was not sure about V-belts. where did you see it? It would help with my A/C install but if not I'll just have to route it another way.

Its been a very long time since I have seen one. Everything is serp belts today. Try checking the older Ford cars and trucks in the wrecking yards.
