I think I've got the serp brackets lined out and I'm ready to install an alternator. What do you guys recommend? Will the stock alt. for a 91 mustang suffice and bolt up to the BCB serp set up?

Yes. And that should be a 3G. Kind of pricey when purchased new compared to our old style but it should be a superior unit.

The stock factory alternator for a 91 mustang is a 2G... You could use it, but it has issues... Mainly that it does not produce much more amps than the factory Bronco 1G alt and how the battery leads plug into the side. Both of these Alt have external fans.

You want to run a 3G Alt, internal fan. they come in a large case and a small case size. It has been a while, but what I remember is that the large case will fit a Mustang serp set-up. You need to notch (clearance) the Alt bracket slightly so that it will fit. Minor wiring issues for hook up and 100+ amps available for use!

There are lists floating around on Classic of donor cars to get the Alt from... (I remember 94-95 Mustangs) BCB has a wiring diagram on their Tech list

I picked up a 3G today (94 mustang). It fits the BCB bracket fine but it's not threaded at the top where it attaches and neither is the bracket. Is it safe to just use a bolt and lock washer or is there something different I should do? I also spoke way too soon on the serp set up. ?:?

don't helicoil the alternator. If it goes out at some point that your on the road you can't just go down to parts store and pick one up. Unless of course you keep a drill and helicoil kit in your Bronco at all times. Just a thought.

Think a nutsert would work or would it split the case when you tried to tighten it down?

No and more no-- use a gr8 bolt a flat washer on one side a flat on the other side and an all metal lock nut. KISS Principle on stuff like this rules Keep It Simple Stupid
