Aluminum Tubing for PS - How to form the end?

I switched my power steering pump to a dual return and now the low pressure line going into the gear box isn't going to work for me. I need to fab a different aluminum line, but don't know how to create the end that keeps the rubber hose from slipping off. I took it to a couple local places to see if they could fab something for me, but they weren't much help... Does anyone know what tool you used to get this type of end?

I have also run without a flare and used a good clamp and never had a leak. Double up if you really need to. Its low pressure.

I might add, the flaring tool needs a length of straight tubing to "grab" to make the flare. Can't do it right after a bend. You can always bend after the flare is set.

I don't know that I would use aluminum ( are you sure that isn't steel tubing?)
I have soldered compression sleeves to steel tubes near the end to give a bump for the hose to seal against...

Thanks Matt -- I was trying to find a way to do the same type of flare that is on this tubing, but I guess just doing a small bubble flare on the end of the tube would serve the same purpose. Good tip to flare first, bend second!

You're correct -- it's steel tubing. or is it? LOL -- hell, I don't know. I'll need to grab a magnet to find out.

Is your LP line at the gearbox aluminum?

I’ve rented a double flaring tool from NAPA that worked well on my steel fuel lines. Might try that.

Sort of like bringing a sledge hammer to drive a finish nail! ;D;D

For 450 clams, it better cut, bend, flare all by itself -- then whisper sweet stuff in my ear.
I have one.
I have not screwed up a flare yet, even stuff still attached to truck in awkward positions.

Oh I’m sure it’s a heck of a set, but I don’t see myself doing a bunch of this work. I ordered a set that’s less than 450, but more than 5 bucks!

I got mine on Craigslist not retail.
I don't do a bunch but it's nice to have when needed, probably used it 6 times in the 5 or so years I have had it.

My $20 craftsman one went in the trash

If it is aluminum and you can separate it, take it to an AC shop. Some make their own hoses etc.

It's just a bubble flare, you can do it with a regular flaring tool as well as stated. The mastercool does it better I think.

Not sure this will work with steel tubing.

Here is an example of the tool used to make that type of flare.

I think the best bet is just clamp it on. The steel tube should hold fine with a hose clamp. But if you can rent something like this from somewhere you can make it purdy.
