I didn't want to hijack the dual exhaust thread and I know this has been covered a number of times, but I would like some comments.

Just made an appointlment to get a super single system installed. I have Duff's long tube headers so they'll be installing collectors back. He suggested dual 2 1/4" in and 3" out to best maintain/increase torque. (Fairly stock 302 with 2150 carb.) He thought there would not be room to exit in front of the passenger rear tire and is suggesting an angled exit immediately behind the tire. (This was a phone call -he looked at the Bronco several months ago but couldn't recall if there was room or not.) Going aluminized and not stainless.

Any comments, suggestions? Please post any pics which I can print to show how you guys have routed/exited yours.

I already grabbed these pics from the duals thread.

Trying to get this installed before next weeks Blue Rocks run. Thanks.

If you want something that sounds really awesome check this out
12619.jpg

This is the Muffler I am running, and it sounds f*ckin sick when you really get on it, but fairlly quiet when just cruisin.

Whats ince about this muffler it has a body length of only 14 inches, so it is rather compact.

I realize you are running long tubes, so your install will have to be a little different to mine. Though with my NV3550 the cross member made my intall is little more difficult, with you Auto trans, I bet you will have more room to play with. Mine has 2.5 inch pipes comming off my Wild Horses JBA headers, and my guy made a 2.5 in and 3 inch out Y pipe. Then a 3 inch tail pipe comming out infront of the rear passenger tire.

here are some pics of the Y pipe and the muffler

I have to admit. I like the looks and sound of dual exhaust, but you guys might have me sold on the super single.. That would eliminate the problem I have with the extra exhaust using my emergency brake mount. I then can get the beast inspected finally.

Trust me a properlly setup single can sound every bit as good as a dual exhaust. Everybody who has heard my exhaust tells me it is one of the best sounding trucks they have ever heard.

Though going with the 2.5 inch muffler, and Y pipe might make it a little easier to get installed, and might even help with the low end power. I bet it would sound pretty close to mine.

A lot of guys tell me mine sounds like a hopped up Mustang

Mine exit right behind the rear wheel between the spring and body. Don't have to worry about smashing it.

That's exactly what worries me about a behind the tire exit - I've seen too many smashed tips from going over a drop-off. Got any pics of how you routed between the spring and body? No problem with the spring hitting the exhaust at full stuff?

I have 2 1/4 into a 3 and it exits behind the tire on the passenger side. I had dual James Duff exhaust before and I think it sounds just as good if not better.

Don't have any problems with it hitting the spring. After I went back and looked it exits in front instead of the back. Here is about the best pic I have of it.

I built my own using pre-bent 2.5 inch aluminized pieces from Summit, but you can have your shop do the same thing and it will be prettier than mine. I am running a 2 inch body lift, so if you're not, you might not have enough room to do this.

Here is a nice set up I liked. I took this at the '05 Shootout, can't remember the owners name. Anyhow he used oval pipe and ran it over the frame rail and out the side. Looks like a Nascar exhaust.

I have a very similar set up to DonsBolt's, but my muffler is a Flowmaster Hushpower. Similar size and sound; deep growl when you hit the gas, but fairly quiet at cruising speed. I have the older style Duff long tube headers, a 2.5" in/out 'Y' tube, 2.5" in/out muffler, and it dumps just in front of the rear axle. It's tucked up and out of the way, but I don't do any heavy rock crawling so clearance is not a major concern of mine.

Davis' rig has 2.25 in and 3" out..Flowmaster's Y-pipe and muffler. Here you can see where he routed the outlet..

davis-in-rock-garden.jpg

I really screwed up my rig by going duals..because now I really need to get rid of the muffler on one side to make room for an anti-wrap bar on my D60. Live and learn..pretty soon I'll be scrapping half of my 500-dollar custom dual system and converting it to super-single.%)

2 2-1/4 into one 2-1/2 is plenty big enough. I exited over the frame in front of the tank and routed outside the frame to the rear. I will eventually change it to side exit when I figure out how much I am going to cut the rear quarters.

I use magnaflow super turbo, but I am an old man who doesn't need to hear the exhaust, I would rather hear the intake growl. :)

I think there are some pics in my gallery.

Do any of you guys have problems with the floorboard getting hot when you run the exhaust over the frame? I just installed a 3" body lift and would like to go this route but I dont want to bake in the cab!

Oops I forgott to post this
Magnaflow makes a 2.5 in to 3 inch out Y pipe, which would make this install easier for you

Also if you want to stay with a 2.5 inch muffler you can go with part number 12616, and a 2.5 in and 2.5 out Y pipe 10768, which would make going out infront of the rear tire a little easier

Is there a performance advantage by running the Y before the muffler or running dual in / single out muffler?
