Ok this may be a question just for Texas Boys .. But I had just bought Antique Plates for my Bronco before I had my heart attack.. So the plate set in the Bronco until tonight, When I installed it.. Only one plate and it goes on the rear. With Antique plate you don't have to run an inspection sticker here in Texas. But I got to looking at my paper work and there is no sticker for the windowshield. In Texas there is a registration plastic that goes on the front window.. I don't have one with my paper work ... So is there nothing that goes on the front window when you run Antique Plates.

nothing goes on the window anymore, they should have given you an old style sticker like what goes on a license plate, and a small metal tab to put the sticker on. you bolt the tab on one of your rear plate bolts.

I live in Dallas Texas and when I went to the DMV and I took both plates (1973) they charged me for a windshield sticker. The windshield sticker has the license plate # on it.
Like they say you do not need an inspection sticker, but some of the police officers do not know that you don't have to have one. So I spend $12.50 a year and smile as I pass them.

Ditto for me.

My windshield sticker is good thu 2013 – after that it’s 5 years. I did the inspection sticker just to keep from having to explain the law to the locals.

Technically, you are only supposed to be enroute to or from a show/parade/cruise with "Antique" plates, and run “Classic” plates for DDs. I’m going with the story that I’m testing mods in preparation for a show! (…everyday – more testing.)

wait tell you pass a police officer that knows the that those tags are for parade vehicles only and with speeds not to exceed 20MPH.

You are gonna love what they do to you. Buddy ran them on all his cars for 20 years with no problems. Cop pulls him over on the highway. 70 MPH in a model A ford in a 60. Buddy also got then all inspected so he didn't have to deal with it. This cop knew the law. wrote him a ticket for 70 in a 60. wrote him a teicket for 50 MPH over his registration limit. wrote him a ticket for improper registration. 3 tickets. Judge made him pay the 70 in a 60 and then fined himed hard on the improper registration, in a plea agreement he ended up paying back registrations on the vehilces. Its been a few years so i do not remeber how much all this cost him, but he no longer runs those tags.

Here is the web site that has official info about Texas Antique Plates. There is no such thing as "for parade vehicles only and with speeds not to exceed 20mph." Appears your buddy got hosed. I've been running them for 10+yrs and have never been stopped. No state inspection required and I know nothing about a w/s sticker unless it's something brand new since my plates are fairly new. Nothing was sent with the renewal to indicate a w/s sticker was required.

Here's how I look at using them. If your EB is used infrequently and is not your daily driver, go with Antique Plates. If it's your DD, go with regular plates and inspection sticker to avoid pull-over. However, how is a cop going to know if it's not your daily driver...unless he's running surveillance on you?

In VA abuse got so bad that they now require a notarized statement saying you have at least 1 other vehicle registered with regular tags. I have 3 EBs with antique plates and had to send in 3 notarized statements! (Lucky I have 4 other vehicles and 1 motorcycle with regular tags! LOL)

While this link says nothing about 20MPH doesn't mean it still isn't part of the law. But this is a direct qoute from your link.

"The vehicle must be used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades or other functions of public interest. Vehicles displaying Antique plates may not be used for regular transportation or carry advertising. The vehicle may be driven to and from a location for routine maintenance."

That buddy is the definition of a parade vehicle. Right from your link.

I bought my 72 about a year ago. I got regular TX plates and inspection. I then drove it around for a couple of months before I started the resotration. My plan is to run original 1972 Texas truck plates when the restoration is complete. My wife found a set of never used plates for me to use. They even had a flyer for the Huntsville prison rodeo in between the two plates. (Plates in Texas used to be made by prisoners). Apparently, in Texas, you can register your vechicle with old plates (yes we confirmed we could do it). Its not "antique" or "classic" and has none of the restrictions assotiated with those.

Papitt - Skip all of the advice here (including mine :)) and go to the Vehicle Registration office at the Courthouse. They are very informative.

Yes I'd just bought my Antique plate about a month ago but then I had my heart attack and have just forgot what was said.. The girls at the reg. office said I could drive it to town to be worked on ..So this is what I'm going to go with .. since I work at a garage and parts supply house.. And the fueling station .. And I'm going to show it off down at the Sonic.. YA RIGHT ...
...But I thought I should have something on the window..
..I was wanting a inspection sticker on it to keep Duddly DoRight under control.

You left out the first sentence of the reg. It clearly states that A.P.s are issued for (vehicles) that are at least 25 yrs old and are collector items. Then it goes on to say (above) that A.P. vehicles can only be used exclusively for certain activities. Parades are parades. Simple enough. Exhibitions, club activities and other functions of public interest cannot and should not be defined as narrowly as you did as parades. Those activities include lots of other stuff...off road runs, car shows, rallies, roundups etc. You could argue that in any forum anywhere and win.

And please point me to "part of the law" that states A.P. licensed vehicles can only be driven 20 mph or less. I guess if such a law exists somewhere and is written and posted, all us A.P. licensed vehicle owners now have to reduce our speed to 20mph or below. Ludicrous...we'll get ticketed for violating the minimum speed law or get run over by a semi-rig.

That's exactly what I did with my 1970...got the year-specific plates and register it like a regular vehicle.

I'm of the same mind as 00gyrhed, I wouldn't drive it around anywhere _except_ parades (I was in one this year, too!) or club meetings or to the mechanic if I had that antique registration. Had it in WA state, but law there says it's OK to drive the vehicle "for the pleasure of others"--much more broad definition--heck, just seeing my EB on the road brings "pleasure" to others...but the Texas law is different.

The law used to say 20 MPH. If you were old enough to know better you would be familar with it. When I though about registering my 55 chevy 20 years ago there was a 20 MPH speed limit. I guess they have changed it.

But you guys go ahead you know everything I am just an idiot. One day when You have a wreck in an uninspected vehicle and you hurt someone and their lawyer uses the fact that you were running an unispected altered vehicle on the road for day to day driving to prove that you were not only negligant but a scoff law and absolutely ruins your life don't say you weren't warned. far fetched maybe but look at how little you save to go this wroute. Its chicken feed.

My deal with this is that the savings on antique registration and plates isn't worth the gamble. I drive my bronco all the time. I drive it to the ranch, sometimes to work, to the store, to visit family, and I do not want to be bound by some law as to how I can legally drive it. I do not want to go to court to prove I was within the law if some Barney Fife pulls me over out in bufu TX.
