That is derived from the Warn 8274 design.

It is popular in Europe for winching competitions.
They have winching competitions like we have off road driving competitions.

A couple of comments from one of their forums:

Oh, Amercians can't winch to save thier lives....... One team at Choclate Thunder were painful to watch. 25 minutes to do 3 minutes work.

It could be because their vehicles are so capable, they don't get much winching practice.
