Looking to upgrade a bit from my 33s. I have a 3.5 suspension lift and no body lift. Fenders are cut. Also debating 16s or 17s

I would look at the load rating of the tires. I've only seen the BFG KO2 in a C-rated tire in that size, however there are some D-rated options to look at before you get into the E-rated tires. FWIW, there appears to be almost twice as many D-rated load range options with a 17" wheel than with a 16" wheel.

That said, I don't see any 315/75R17 options, only 315/70R17, so if you went with the bigger wheel, you'd be getting a slightly smaller tire in that sizing. You gave a very specific size, so do you have a tire picked out at this point, or just the basic size (~35x12.5)?

I have just been looking at tires online and the 315s appear to be much cheaper than 35s. I found quite a few 315/75 tires when I was looking

Yeah, I am running the BFG KO 315/75/16s and it is a D rated tire. The previous owner selected this tire, but I have been very happy with it in this size configuration.

I have been a BFG AT fan for a long time and have used them on several vehicles. I currently have 285/65/18s KO2s on my Z71 Tahoe daily driver. They have been great tires thus far and I like the more aggressive look of them.

They way I understand the metric sizes is that the 2nd set of #s (75) decreases with the size of the wheel. An 18 wheel would need a 65 for example.

60's, 70's, etc...

315/70/17

315 millimeters wide
17" rim diameter
70 aspect ratio

Aspect ratio is the height of the sidewall.
In this case it is a 70% aspect ratio so

The aspect ratio multiplied by the width gives you sidewall height,

.70x315mm=220.5mm sidewall height

2 sidewalls (the upper and lower)

2 x 220.5mm=441mm

Total sidewall=441mm÷25.4= 17.4"
Rim = = 17"
34.4" tall tire.

I went with 15” rims due to price, it saved me $100 per tire which basically paid for my rims. Weird how the pricing is on tires sometimes.

Based on my calculations, the 315/70R17 is 34.4" and the 315/75R16 is 34.6", hence the slightly smaller comment. That said, there's probably enough variation between nominal sizing and actual sizing, not to mention installed dimensions on various wheel widths, that for all intents and purposes, they're basically 35" tires. Didn't mean to confuse the issue (further), but my wife says to stick with what I'm good at. ;D
