I know this has been covered can someone contribute ? I want an Art Carr-Winters shifter in my Bronco with AN AOD ,,, I saw a 09 thread that someone posted saying that Art Carr in Huntington beach could put something together to make it work,, I have hit walls in all directions calling vendors who all tell "NO" there is no shifter for the AOD,,

Does anyone run one ???

shift pattern ,, AOD

I had a Bronco with an AOD ,, but still am unsure about the shift ,, was it capable of holding in gear in 1st,,, but 2nd would go into 3rd . If you put the shifter in 3rd it would go 1-2-3 then Not go into OD until it was put into the OD (drive) position ,,,,, is this correct?

First 2 things to go when you get old is your sex drive ,,, and I can't remember the other one!!!

seems like the shifter for a 4r70w should work. As to the manual shifting the aod's do something weird and cant remember how i used to shift it. there isn't an od position on the aod so 3rd should go into od. I think to hold 2 you might have to shift all the way down to 1st then back up to 2nd. like i said its been years since i drove a bronco with and aod and that one had a bandm megashifter.

See here for info on the Winters/ArtCarr gate shifter for AOD. Gate plate is the same part # for AOD or 4R70W/AOD-E. The shift arm is different, and I'm not sure it's available any more. I am running an AOD trans with Winters/ArtCarr shifter. It took some finagling, fab/changing parts, to get everything to work together in a Bronco, but it's not too difficult.

With a stock valvebody, you cannot keep it in 1st gear or out of O/D. That is one of the annoyances of the AOD. A Silverfox or Lentech valve body will allow the AOD to hold specific gears and/or stay out of O/D. I tried an AOD with stock valvebody at first...it sucked in my opinion. The aftermarket valve body made all the difference in the world. With everything that is necessary to upgrade an AOD and have it performing in the sweet spot, you may as well go 4R70W...cost is the same between both with upgrades and the 4R is almost like a 5 speed with the lock up converter.

I run one for my AOD, I had to make a bracket for the shift cable to attach to the trans. My AOD is a HUGHES with a built valve body and it does hold first and second respectively. Do a search and you'll find the thread where I made the bracket, I think it might be referenced in my build thread. If you have any other questions PM me.

I forgot about the cable bracket mod. Needabronco made a new one, I modified the one that came with the kit. Both worked out the same. I have pics of how I modified the bracket posted here in an older thread too.
