To the AOD converts,
What kind of modification or fabrication did you guys do to accomodate moving the crossmember back 1.5"? I saw Tom's has a kit, but it's a $175. Seems kind of steep. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Danny

After notching and welding up the center part of the cross member, I mounted the tranny/TC and jacked everything up in place. Removed the crossmember/frame bracket bolts, bolted the cross member to the adapter and the brackets to the original frame holes and marked where the new sweet spot was on the frame bracket. Drilled it and bolted it up. About a year so far, no problems.

I used a AOD kit on the 4R70W. Just found it easier to build a new crossmember out of parts in the scrape bin. There are some pictures in the 4R70W tech article on the left.

Reading Lttrbox's response, sounds like I did the same. Here's a picture. Notched the cross bar and then just drilled another hole where in the cross bar and frame brackets. Four bolts holding the cross bar to the side brackets (2 in each) and then kept the stock mounting of the side brackets to the frame rails.
