I am currently installing an AOD transmission and have a couple questions. I have installed a explorer front dress and currently awaiting a 1 inch body lift to arrive. From reading on here the transfer case cross member will move back 1.5 inches. Will the bracket be inline with the old bolt holes? I am kind of freaking out about the passenger side idler pulley on the front dress rubbing on the crossmember!! Does anybody have pictures of where they installed their crossmember brackets?

Yes you will have to move the crossmember back. As far as the pulley goes I didn’t have to cut the front crossmember but I know people on the forum said they had to. Also I don’t know if this helped my situation but I changed my motor mounts so it very well could have raised the motor up some. One of the vendors sell extreme motor mounts to raise the motor up a bit. I just cant remember which vendor.

There is also a well-known smaller diameter pulley for that idler position that makes life a little easier.
Even though it’s well-known, I don’t have a part number memorized. Should be listed here in the forum somewhere.

"Here's another shot of the belt and a shot of the smaller idler pulley
(Napa #NBH36079 - 60mm) that BroncoBernie discovered. Cleared the frame great with Napa motor mounts."

I am sorry but the last AOD I installed was about 18 yrs ago... I did not find any good pictures from that build.

You modify your factory crossmember as shown in the AA directions or you can look at the aftermarket crossmember kits like Tom's sells.
I made my own "L" brackets for my last 4R70W install which is similar to the AOD. Just some angle iron and flat steel welded together, still using the factory holes on the frame.

the explorer brackets have good sized bolt holes so when you bolt that passenger bracket on, push it up to the bottom of the hole to help gain you some clearance on the pulley

I sure hope I don't have to change the motor mounts or cut more metal! There is only 6 to 7 thousand miles on the mounts I have now!! Thanks for the reply

I think I have most of that metal to replicate the bracket like you. I will see how far I get after installing the body lift tomorrow. Thanks
