AOD not shifting right?

I finally drove my truck after installing a used AOD about 6 months ago. The trans is a Hughes rebuild with about 1000 miles on it, but it's been sitting for a couple of years.

Anyway the TV cable is set at; neither tight, nor slack, the pan looks like the trans is 'new' and the atf is clean and new.

It takes forever to shift out of first and acts like it goes straight to maybe 3rd, or OD, but there's a ton of slippage. If I slow down and manually downshift it will go back to 3rd.

I've read that this can be caused by sticky valve's in the valve body, and that cold weather makes the problem more pronounced. Does this sound like that's the problem, or are there other issues? What should I check. I WAS going to head down for the Stampede tomorrow night...

If it is an aftermarket TV cable and doesnt have a return spring you might need one, mine did. It keeps the valve from floating and raising the pressure preventing shifting. The stock cable has a built in spring. With that said, you should be able to manually shift 1-2, it sounds like the valve body is sticking. I would hook up a pressure guage and check it- or have a shop do it. If it is slipping something else is wrong or its stuck in 2nd gear ect. Hopefully this helps.
