Has anyone actually done this and what problems can I expect? And any advice? Or am I better off using that AOD to dana 20 adapter from advanced adapters?

I think some here have done it already. Hopefully you can get some good answers from them.
I know Cory at our shop (Wild Horses) was working with JB Fab just yesterday on a small J-shift issue. Sounds like some are an easy fix, while others not so easy.
Don't know if they were working on ZF stuff or not, but I know Jon at JB has some good knowledge there as well.

If you have time and don't get a quick answer here, maybe give Cory a shout (209-943-0991) or better yet, Jon at JB.

Good luck. I bet there are some answers for you here soon.

Yep. Sorry I didn't post his number back there. But easy to find either way. Thought he had an advertising button up top, but don't see it at the moment.

Are you looking to retain the j-shift shifter or just questioning using the ZF adapter to the case? maybe I'm slow today, but the question confused me.

I used the ZF adapter to j-shift on my 4r70w swap (pretty much the same thing) but I modded twin sticks that I already had. Just make sure to get the extra seal (Timken 471950) to keep the trans fluid out of the t-case.

I just want to know if the ZF adapter would connect my Dana 20 to my aod. I currently do not have a shifter so I can get whatever shift as needed. I just heard if I use a ZF adapter all I will have to do is cut three quarters of an inch off my output shaft on my transmission I didn't know if the ZF adapter was the way to go or if I need to get the aod to Dana 20 adapter.

Yes. I had forgotten that part. Also you have to come up with a crossmember that will work. I modded a zf crossmember (from BC I think...) With the AOD/d20 adapter I believe you can reuse your factory crossmember. Someone who has used it can verify.

I was planning on making a cross member that uses the factory transmission mount on the aod

I am having some doubt about the zf adapter. Advanced adapter says it won't work due to the crossmember issue. Is there a problem with me using the factory aod transmission crossmember location? I understand that I will need to fabricate a crossmember but will it support the transfer and transfer case? Please give me your thoughts.
